Pay Philosophy

The typical starting salary range for this role is determined by a number of factors including skills, experience, education, certifications and location. The full salary range for this role reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role. Some roles at Liberty Mutual have a corresponding compensation plan which may include commission and/or bonus earnings at rates that vary based on multiple factors set forth in the compensation plan for the role.


Description

US Retail Markets (USRM) Technology – Claims Tech is searching for passionate engineering leaders to work as Senior Solutions Engineer. As a Senior Solutions Engineer at Liberty Mutual, you’ll provide technical oversight and engineering solutions to complex and strategic development programs. You’ll oversee design reviews and frameworks for multiple product teams and large portfolios. You’ll be responsible for providing engineering leadership, the implementation of technology by developing clear, comprehensive, and integrated system, technical and/or product recommendations which support business plans and long-term strategies. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Develops clear, comprehensive, and integrated system, technical and/or product recommendations that ensure consistency, security, maintainability and flexibility within a business capability across Claims Tech portfolios. 
  • Provides consultation and collaborates with technology leaders, business partners and peer groups regarding long and short-range product features. Provides oversight at the portfolio level, influencing decision-making and prioritizing the engineering backlog & roadmaps for the programs and teams. 
  • Responsible for defining and leading engineering excellence guardrails. 
  • Contributes toward forecasts of business and IT trends to define the technical direction within USRM Claims Tech portfolios. 
  • Educates and drives adoption of the well-architected framework in order to promote Operational Excellence, Security, Reliability, Performance Efficiency, Cost Optimization into cultural norms. 
  • Makes recommendations to improve process efficiency and effectiveness, as well as drives overall system reliability & resiliency through excellent engineering practices.  
  • Participates during incident management events and provides consultative recommendations on viable resolutions. 
  • Maintains collaborative and strategic partnerships between customers, vendors, business partners, and technology teams. 
  • Mentors fellow engineers to develop technical engineering capabilities. 
  • Shares expertise ensuring that teams are continuously improving and learning together to meet current and future engineering needs. Additionally demonstrates expertise through publication and speaking engagements or other indicators of external industry recognition of expertise. 
  • Provides engineering leadership & drives technical excellence across all the engineering facets of Claims tech. 
  • Shapes designs and patterns, working with software engineers to implement solutions that fit within those designs/patterns. 
  • Works with other Solutions Engineers and Solutions Architects in the domain to define a clear vision and model of engagement which provides the right level of technical leadership at each role and for each product.  
Qualifications
  • Advanced knowledge of agile development methodologies as typically acquired through a Bachelors or Masters degree in technical or business discipline or equivalent experience
  • 12-15+ years of related experience
  • Extensive experience in software engineering languages and tools
  • In-depth knowledge of diverse and emerging technologies and new architectural concepts and principles
  • In-depth understanding of layered solutions and designs; in-depth understanding of shared software concepts and product features, as well as security minded
  • Proficiency in product and system components of technical architecture
  • In-depth knowledge of business operations, objectives and strategies; in-depth understanding of global business and technology trends and the financial services industry
  • Strong influencing and consensus building skills, and the adaptability to respond to change quickly
  • Strong communications skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to effectively collaborate with all levels of the organization with diverse backgrounds
  • Proven experience with agile practices and expectations
  • Strong desire to drive change, and ability to adapt to change quickly
  • Strong consulting skills (relevant/technical); recognized as a thought leader within the company
  • Ability to balance the long-term "big picture" and short-term implications of decisions

Preferred skills: 

  • An engineering leader and proven ability to code in modern technologies/languages and frameworks (React/JS, Microservices, APIs, Java/Spring) 
  • Design and implementation experience with Cloud-native solutions (AWS preference) and event-based architectures (Kafka preference) 
  • Extensive experience in software engineering languages and tools with highly preferable proficiency / knowledge in Front end technologies, COTS products, custom solutions and microservices.  
  • In-depth knowledge of diverse and emerging technologies and new architectural concepts and principles; In-depth understanding of layered solutions and designs and understanding of shared software concepts and product features. 
  • Proficiency in product and system components of technical architecture. 
  • In-depth knowledge of business operations, objectives and strategies; in-depth understanding of global business and technology trends and the financial services industry. 
  • Highly developed negotiation, consensus building & influencing skills, facilitation and the adaptability to respond to change quickly 
  • Strong desire to drive change, and ability to adapt to change quickly. 
  • Ability to balance the long-term "big picture" and short-term implications of decisions there by driving both long-term tech strategy as well as short term business outcomes.  
  • Able to lead other software engineers in developing solutions 
  • Demonstrated advancement of excellent engineering practices across teams using industry measures (e.g. DORA) to quantify outcomes and inform where to drive improvements 
  • Cognizance of security concerns, from access control and authentication to secured SDLC processes
