Job Summary:
The Manager of Issues Management and Media Relations is responsible for developing and executing communications activities on behalf of Walgreens to protect and promote the Walgreens brand. This role will support positioning the Walgreens brand and its reputation as a force for good and as a leader in shaping the future of healthcare, wellbeing, and retail, by telling the Walgreens story on our operations, innovation, and impact across key markets via earned, owned, shared, and paid media. The Manager will coordinate with colleagues across Corporate Affairs which includes Government Relations and other business partners to manage issues, develop public relations strategies and conduct proactive and reactive media relations efforts. This job also includes media monitoring, researching interview topics as well as responding to media inquiries, developing press releases, messaging, media statements and managing media assets.

Job Description:

  • Supports corporate media relations and public relations, including the development of Walgreens key messages, materials and key stakeholder relationships. Ensures outreach to news media is coordinated with broader business communications strategies and initiatives.
  • Develops and executes media strategy and activities for generating news coverage on behalf of company strategic focus areas through the cultivation of top tier media relationships and earned media.
  • Maintains a deep understanding of the external market and identifies issues developing both internally and externally that have the potential to generate public interest and affect the Walgreens reputation.
  • Provides counsel to company's internal divisions and businesses on issues management strategies and crisis communications. Coordinates across Corporate Affairs partners and other key stakeholders to ensure communications planning, execution and messaging is integrated and linked with company positions and corporate goals.
  • Supports relationship with public relations agencies.
  • Supports managing issues at the community and store level alongside field leadership and government relations. Knowledge of relevant industry and business unit information.

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree and at least 2 years of experience developing, executing and integrating communications plans OR a high school diploma/GED and at least 5 years of experience developing, executing and integrating communications plans.
  • Experience providing counsel, influence and challenge to the thinking of business leaders.
  • Experience writing and editing in AP style.
  • Experience with project management (for example: planning, organizing and managing resources to bring about the successful completion of specific project goals and objectives.
  • Experience leading and completing multiple projects on deadline.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications and/or English.
  • Bachelor's degree and at least 5 years of experience developing, executing and integrating communications plans.
  • Experience in the healthcare and/or retail industry.
  • Experience in community relations and government affairs.
  • Experience in the indirect management of team members including assisting in the development, training and assignment of work/projects to other members of a team.

Salary Range$102800 - $164400 / Salaried
