Job Summary

Responsible for overseeing the Workers' Compensation, General Liability, Druggist Liability, Product Liability, and Healthcare Liability programs for the organization. Responsible for identifying, assessing and mitigating liability in partnership with the third-party claims administrator and defense counsel. Delivers results based on the company's short term and long-term strategic goals. Partners with internal and external stakeholders to provide recommendations for cost savings and risk mitigation techniques.

Job Responsibilities

• Participate in stewardship, strategy, claim reviews and other meetings with third party claims administrators, outside defense counsel, claim advocates and internal stakeholders
• Oversee the Workers' Compensation and Liability claims programs, including settlement authority, strategy, goals, solutions, and litigation (including coordinating communication with insurers regarding mass tort handling)
• Assess the company's exposures and design appropriate program structures to mitigate risk while minimizing cost
• Work with third party claims administrator to structure comprehensive and competitively priced claims handling and mitigation programs
• Advise internal stakeholders regarding risk exposures and potential outcomes regarding various claims scenarios and indemnity agreements
• Build internal partnerships to highlight risk management's value in assisting them in their business decisions
• Oversee claim notification process to insurance carriers.
• Mentors, coaches and evaluates staff. Develops team members through orientation, training, establishing objectives, communication of rules, and constructive discipline. Builds employee morale, motivation and loyalty.

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree and at least 4 years of experience in Risk management and claims OR High School/GED and at least 7 years of experience in Risk management and claims.
• Experience with analyzing and reporting data in order to identify issues, trends, or exceptions to drive improvement of results and find solutions.
• Experience in identifying operational issues and recommending and implementing strategies to resolve problems.
• Intermediate level skill in Microsoft Excel (for example: using SUM function, setting borders, setting column width, inserting charts, using text wrap, sorting, setting headers and footers and/or print scaling).
• Intermediate level skill in Microsoft Word (for example: inserting headers, page breaks, page numbers and tables and/or adjusting table columns)
• At least 2 years of experience contributing to financial decisions in the workplace.
• At least 2 years of direct leadership, indirect leadership and/or crossfunctional team leadership.
• Willing to travel up to/at least 15% of the time for business purposes (within state and out of state).

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree and at least 5 years of experience in risk management/claims, OR High School Diploma/GED and at least 8 years of experience in risk management/claims.
• Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Business Administration, or Risk Management.
• Associate in Claims (AIC) and at least 4 years of experience in risk management/claims.
• Experience with a large, multi-state or global company in the retail or healthcare sector with a global knowledge of casualty insurance coverages.
• Experience working with casualty insurance placements, captives and self-insured retentions.
