Federal Bureau of Prisons
Who We Are
The Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) was founded in 1930, creating safe, secure facilities for inmates to serve out their sentences. Our mission goes beyond public safety--we are also responsible for effective programming, from needs-based assessments to vocational training, that facilitate inmates' successful re-entry into society. We serve a crucial role in the justice system, with a duty that begins after the court room and continues into the community.
Our mission: Corrections professionals who foster a humane, secure environment, and ensure public safety by preparing individuals for successful reentry into our communities
The BOP has more than 100+ institutions across the country, and the myriad career opportunities across our agency are akin to the kind of positions required for a self-sustaining city. From Correctional Officers to teachers, nurses, doctors, psychologists and more, every role in our organization is essential to our success.
