Job Summary:
Reporting directly to the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor, the HVAC - R Technician:
- Installs, inspects, troubleshoots, and maintains heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration, and climate-control systems, including refrigerated storage equipment, HVAC units, ice machines, etc., as well as works on the mechanical and electrical components of these systems
- Checks for leaks in gas and refrigeration units, ensuring the movement and lubrication of bearings and inspecting the condition of belts involving motors
- Performs routine inspections of existing equipment, such as compressors, condensers, electrical connections, and motor operations
- Utilizes operating tools, gages, and testing equipment for refrigeration systems
- Diagnoses problems and makes repairs to existing equipment
- Applies troubleshooting methods, replaces parts, and runs tests to ensure the systems are working properly following repairs
- Applies welding and soldering techniques as required
- Replaces and upgrades systems, applying the use of more sophisticated systems to improve service and obtain energy efficiencies
- Assists other trades with electrical work, refrigeration and cooling installation, inspection, and maintenance of gas lines and valves, and plumbing
- Checks all electrical equipment to identify problems in control mechanisms, circuits, breakers, and valves
- Reads and understands product manuals, blueprints, diagrams, and schematics
- Reports, documents, and informs supervisor of unit conditions
- Trains other technicians as necessary.
In addition, this position:
- models and promotes excellent customer service for internal and external customers
- Works well with contractors and other tradesmen
- Ensures refrigeration systems are safe and running efficiently
- Follows all protocols
- Complies with safety procedures, statutory regulations, federal and state codes
Skills /Knowledge/Abilities:
MS Windows/Office; SAP ; KRONOS
Understanding the operations of commercial and residential refrigeration systems and components; electrical and plumbing concepts; welding and soldering techniques; operating tools, gages, and testing equipment for refrigeration systems.

Required License/Registration/Certification :
KY Journeyman's Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning ( HVAC ) Mechanic License
Environmental Protection Agency ( EPA ) Section 608 Universal Certification
Preferred Education/Experience:
Associate's Degree + 5 Years
Technical Diploma + 6 Years
Driver's License - Preferred
Demonstrated experience in refrigeration and HVAC - previous journeyman or apprentice experience - Preferred.
