The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and University of Washington Medical Center (UWMC) is seeking candidates for one full-time or part-time faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor without tenure by reason of funding in the faculty-scientist pathway.

Assistant Professors are eligible for multi-year appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off. Part-time positions are not eligible for visa sponsorship. University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research/scholarship, and service.

Job Duties

  • Provide clinical care as an attending psychiatrist at Harborview Medical Center (HMC).
  • Take call responsibilities commensurate with other clinically active faculty in the Department.
  • Contribute to scholarship related to research and clinical interests and expertise.
  • Develop an independent research program and obtain funding to work on behavioral genetics within addiction services in an outpatient mental health care setting.
  • Teach and supervise trainees as appropriate and in conjunction with your clinical and research activities.
  • You may have other responsibilities as assigned by the Chair or Service Chief by mutual agreement.

Our department is the third largest within the School of Medicine. As the only academic psychiatry department serving Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana, and Idaho, we are committed to improving access to psychiatric care and consultation throughout the greater Pacific Northwest. Our educational programs include a required medical student clerkship for 260 medical students per year at some 30 sites across the WWAMI region, a nationally competitive psychiatry residency program with more than 90 psychiatry residents in Seattle and in two regional residency tracks in Idaho and Montana, subspecialty fellowships in addiction, child and adolescent, consultation-liaison, perinatal mental health and geriatric psychiatry, a nationally renowned scientist-practitioner psychology internship program, and numerous post-doctoral clinical and research fellowships.

Salary

The base salary range for this position will be commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.

The base salary range for an Assistant Professor position will be $17,500 - $22,084 per month ($210,000 - $265,008 annually).

Additional compensation associated with this position may include incentive payments through University of Washington (UWP) practice plan.

An M.D. or D.O. or foreign equivalent, current medical licensure, and eligibility for a Washington State medical license.

In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE), or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
