INTRODUCTION:
Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD) announces an opening for a part-time Instructor Special Assignment, Student Retention Specialist position at Los Angeles Trade Technical College (LATTC).
LATTC is a two-year community college located in downtown Los Angeles. Each semester, the college serves approximately 13,000 students from diverse socio-economic backgrounds.
LATTC is celebrating its 100 th centennial anniversary of being a leader in academic and technical curriculum designed to prepare students for university studies and the workforce. JOB DESCRIPTION:
Los Angeles Trade Technical College (LATTC) is accepting applications for a part-time Instructor Special Assignment, Student Retention Specialist position at our college beginning for Fall 2025 . LATTC is seeking a dynamic, motivated, and diverse candidate to engage our students.
The Student Retention Specialist is for the Nursing Program and is responsible for providing comprehensive support to nursing students throughout their academic journey. This role involves coordinating student services, supporting academic success, clinical placement coordination, advising students on academic matters, and assisting with the overall administrative functions of the nursing program. The Student Retention Specialist plays a key role in enhancing student experiences by serving as a primary point of contact for nursing students and ensuring they receive the resources necessary for their academic and clinical success.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum qualifications to teach any discipline offered at LATTC.
- Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds of community college faculty, staff, and students.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
- At least a bachelor's degree in any related Health & Related Sciences field of study.
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license.
- At least one year of recent experience working in registered nursing.
- Knowledge of nursing education standards and regulations.
- Ability to work in a challenging environment and oversee multiple responsibilities simultaneously.
- Strong commitment to student success and a passion for supporting nursing students in achieving their academic and professional goals.
- Experience in developing and implementing student retention initiatives.
- Strong organizational, communication, and people skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a demanding environment.
- Ability to analyze data and develop actionable strategies.
- Proficiency in computer applications and record-keeping software.
- Flexibility and adaptability to changing program needs.
- Proficient in conflict resolution and crisis intervention.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.

Job Summary :
The Student Retention Specialist is responsible for implementing strategies to improve the retention and success of students in the registered nursing program. This role involves providing academic and personal support to nursing students through academic coaching, mentoring, and skill development. They will collaborate with faculty and staff to identify and address barriers to student success. The specialist will work closely with students to develop individualized success plans, monitor progress, and facilitate access to resources that enhance academic and clinical performance.

This position operates within an academic setting, requiring frequent interaction with students, faculty, and staff. Some evening or weekend hours may be necessary to meet student needs.
COMPENSATION
The salary schedule for adjunct instructors begins at $86.85 per standard hour. Applicants with a doctoral degree are eligible for a doctoral differential.

EVALUATION PROCEDURES:
