Enterprise Data and Information Services Summary

The Enterprise Data and Information Services (EDIS) division within Health Information Technology & Services (HITS) collaborates with partners throughout Michigan Medicine, U-M, and the state of Michigan to create data and analytic resources used across all levels of the enterprise. EDIS work enables analytics in support of strategic, data-driven decisions by leaders, clinicians, researchers, educators, and administrators. The division provides services across the clinical, education, research, and administrative data domains and is organized around the following core capabilities: Data Foundations, Analytics, Data Collaboration and Governance, and Information Strategies & Delivery.

Team Summary

The Information Strategies & Delivery (ISD) team, as part of the EDIS division, creates, coordinates, and delivers enterprise-wide information about data, analytics, data literacy, and data governance for Michigan Medicine. In doing so, we help to support the clinical, educational, and research missions of our institution.

Health Information Technology & Services (HITS) plays an integral role in the success of Michigan Medicine by providing clinicians, educators, researchers, students, and staff with exceptional technology-related information, products, services, and support.

The Information Strategies & Delivery team supports enterprise-wide data literacy and analytics across Michigan Medicine. ISD's goal is to enable clinicians, educators, researchers, students, and staff to more easily navigate, use, understand, and benefit from our Michigan Medicine data and analytic environments. As part of this team, this position will require you to interact with a wide range of data and analytics professionals, including data stewards, data managers, data scientists, analytics developers, and data and analytics end-users across Michigan Medicine. You will work with stakeholders and end-users to determine their analytics and data-related concerns, comprehension, abilities, and their overall data literacy understanding while also working with departments, managers, directors, and other leadership on a portfolio of initiatives and strategy to meet end-user needs.

Requirements Gathering:

  • Interact with customers (e.g., analysts, data stewards, data managers, physicians, care managers, leaders, end-users, etc.) to assess project requirements and data literacy needs.
  • Collaborate with technical teams to define and analyze solutions for addressing customer needs.
  • Document technical specifications to capture requirements, processes, and proposed solutions.


Information Delivery Analysis:
  • Perform analysis of information, problem-solving, and usability in a complex healthcare environment for data, analytics, and data literacy initiatives.
  • Collaborate with leadership and stakeholders across departments to ensure consistent and successful information delivery.
  • Ensure deliverables and systems conform to specifications and maintain those deliverables, systems, and content. Identify and resolve issues.
  • Understand data and analytics strategies for current processes in relation to data literacy, learning, and delivery, and propose new strategies where relevant. Respond to questions and feedback on content. Use feedback to enhance resources as needed.

Customer Service:
  • Provide data and analytic related support to internal customers within Michigan Medicine.
  • Address data and analytic related customer queries in a timely manner, providing resolution and supporting information as needed.
  • Guide and advise team members in current data and analytic related projects, disciplines, research, and strategies.


Communication:
  • Support customers and business partners using excellent communication skills, including active listening, confident speaking, and exceptional writing abilities.
  • Participate in strategic planning for projects. Design and review technical and informational solutions for new development and ongoing work.
  • Articulate status of work to leadership, team members, and customers.


Process Development:
  • Maintain current operational documentation and enhance as requirements evolve.
  • Compare, evaluate, and generate information strategy concepts and delivery processes.
  • Promote a data-literate culture within Michigan Medicine by establishing and guiding practices through partnerships with data governance and analytics groups.
  • Support EDIS data modeling and enterprise data initiatives.
  • Identify and socialize strategies pertaining to data literacy, data-related information design, and delivery systems.
  • Develop and maintain documents, diagrams, presentations, and messaging, including any supporting visuals, templates, information design, etc., related to data literacy, data governance, informational strategies, and end-user data delivery.

Requirements for Senior level
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 5+ years of IT related experience.

Requirements for Intermediate level
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 2-3 years of IT related experience.
  • Experience in requirements gathering and data analysis.
  • Experience resolving complex integration issues involving multiple technologies and business areas.
  • Excellent analytic and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic development environment and adjust to changing priorities, processes, and project plans.
  • Capacity to collaborate with other analytics and data project teams to generate ideas and approaches for improving overall data, analytics, and digital literacy initiatives.
  • Ability to plan and facilitate meetings with diverse participants.
  • Comfortable interacting with remote team members.
  • Knowledge of the Michigan Medicine IT environment.
  • Understanding of end-user information development and delivery practices.
  • Experience with user interface design and usability analysis.
  • Familiar with Adobe tools, such as Acrobat, InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, etc.
  • Proficient with Microsoft SharePoint and Visio.
  • Prepared to learn about, understand, apply, communicate, and document technologies used for Michigan Medicine initiatives, such as Cloud- and AI-based applications and initiatives.
  • Familiar with analytics and data visualization concepts and software (e.g., Tableau).
  • Understanding of various data model types and concepts (relational, dimensional, etc).
  • Understanding of advanced analytics and AI types and concepts.
  • Exposure to Epic Systems and Cogito framework.
  • Excellent written/oral communication and presentation skills including clear and concise conveyance of information and active listening.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work and collaborate effectively with a team.
  • Willingness and strong aptitude for learning new technologies and assuming increasing responsibilities.
  • Ability to work independently while following established procedures and guidelines.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office tools, such as MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
