Overview
The Ghanim Laboratory - https://molbio.princeton.edu/people/george-ghanim is seeking a highly motivated research specialist for a full-time position beginning January 2025. The Ghanim lab aims to understand how to how two mobile elements, LINE-1 and Alu, move through the human genome at the molecular level. The lab uses a combination of nucleoprotein biochemistry, in vivo assays, and cryo-EM to characterize the lifecycle of these elements.
For the first three months the research specialist will work alongside the Dr. Ghanim to establish the lab. Responsibilities include helping to order reagents, order equipment, digitizing lab protocols and organizing the lab space. The research specialist will also work to prepare lab reagents and maintain insect cell stocks. As the lab becomes established, the research specialist work with the Dr. Ghanim to assist in projects studying LINE-1 retrotransposition. The research specialist will also carry out minor tasks related to lab maintenance. This is a one year term position, but with opportunity for extension.

Responsibilities
- Work with Dr. Ghanim in ordering/setting up equipment, organizing lab resources (digitizing a lab protocols, plasmid database, E. coli stock, biochemical substrate stocks, etc.), ordering chemicals and reagents, and following up on orders.
- Work with Dr. Ghanim to prepare laboratory reagents such as competent cells, expression plasmids, polymerases, proteases, and RNA and DNA substrates.
- Once the lab is set up, the research specialist assist Dr. Ghanim with projects studying LINE-1 retrotransposition. Protein purification (30%), biochemical assays (30%), and preparing DNA constructs/biochemical substrates (10%).
- Preparing experimental plans/keeping a notebook, and other activities (lab meeting, meeting with PI, etc.). Helping George with minor lab maintenance duties including lab restocking, preparing plates, media, and maintaining insect cell culture stock.
Qualifications
Required :
- Bachelor Degree in biology or related discipline.
Preferred :
- Bachelor Degree or Masters in biology or related discipline.
- Independent lab experience doing cell culture and protein analysis is preferred.
