Senior Telecommunications Specialist - Military Veterans

Responsibilities
Under general directive supervision performs the installation, programming, testing, and maintenance of various types of Telecommunications equipment and systems. Equipment/Systems include, but not limited to: SONET/DWDM Fiber Optics, Microwave, Voice Systems (PBXs, subscriber sets, wiring, Network Interfaces), Wireless Systems (Two-way radio, paging, SCADA, siren control systems), Data Network, and Power Systems (generators, batteries, inverters, UPS, transfer panels) and Grounding Systems.

  • Determine or validate the root cause of the failure by troubleshooting at the system level once trouble ticket received.
  • Using appropriate test equipment and standards to determine problem of equipment/component/interface. Use applicable work management systems.
  • Restore service by replacing bad part/card/equipment. Test system and validate proper operation.
  • Communicate restoration activities and status with Network Operations Center (NOC) and Customers.
  • Update trouble ticket data with resolution and actions performed.
  • Update any required documentation and submit to Engineering for approval and filing.
  • Read and understand Project Installation Instructions. (Understand system and component level impact).
  • Confer directly with Engineering and/or Project Managers on project details and related issues.
  • Acquire all parts/equipment required and specified by Engineering/Project Managers and any parts not specified or omitted from Project instructions.
  • Communicate with NOC and Customers before performing installation work that may cause outages or system alarms. Communicate project status to management and any problems encountered with the project instructions, equipment, or system with Engineering.
  • Install, test, and turn-up equipment/systems.
  • Complete supporting project documentation.
  • Update any required or "As-Built" documentation and submit to Engineering for approval and filing. Receive preventive maintenance work assignment from management.
  • Perform preventive maintenance activities pursuant to established processes and procedures.
  • Document preventive maintenance activities, test results, and problem resolution actions taken. Submit for approval and filing.
  • Be able to have flexible work hours that would support periodic overtime and in addition; employees are required to respond to calls in support of equipment outages and/or emergencies. This may include mandatory pager duty.
  • Instructs and assists employees in this and lower job classifications in their work, standard practices and procedures as assigned.
  • Performs other similar or less skilled work, as assigned.

Basic/Required Qualifications

Must meet the Company's requirements as to GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS; must have all the qualifications of a Telecommunications Specialist, and, in addition
  • Must have at least three (3) years' experience as a Telecommunications Specialist.
  • Must be capable of directing the work of employees in this and lower classifications.

Working Conditions:
  • Field Mobility Classification - Work will be performed in various field locations, as needed, after the onboarding period. However, field employees are required to live within a reasonable daily commute to their assigned work location.
