What You Will Do
We are currently seeking a Deputy Group Leader (DGL) for LANSCE-FO Accelerator Operations (LFO-ACC). This is an Operations Manager 3 position in the LANSCE Facility Operations (LANSCE-FO) organization reporting to the LFO-ACC Group Leader (GL). The DGL will partner with the GL in providing facility operations management oversight and support for LANSCE accelerator operations, and strategic direction and management oversight for the Asset Management and Safety Basis teams. The successful candidate will direct daily operations and coordinate facility activities to ensure safe and compliant operations and will have direct responsibility for significant elements of the technical leadership within the group. The Operations Manager will ensure the overall safety and security of operations and will ensure deployed functions (e.g., ESH&Q, Engineering, Maintenance) are accountable for their performance in support of operations in their respective areas of responsibility. This position will provide oversight during shutdowns, upgrades, and production and provide technical expertise and oversight during accelerator maintenance outages. The Operations Manager will strive to provide extraordinary customer service to facility tenants, programmatic operations, and other customers within assigned facilities.
Core Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintain accelerator operations within the established Accelerator Safety Envelope (ASE).
- Provide oversite necessary to assure facility compliance with safety and security policies, environmental requirements, and other applicable DOE/governmental orders.
- Support Conduct of Operations and Conduct of Maintenance and Engineering processes as they pertain to accelerator operations.
- Provide oversight and technical guidance during accelerator operations and maintenance.
- Provide support for facility related issues, including coordination of maintenance, programmatic activities, and communication with facility tenants.
- Provide support for maintaining facility/system operating conditions to include configuration management and control.
- Participate in the LANSCE-FO Duty Officer program and serve on rotation as a Duty Officer. Ability to respond to abnormal and emergency events during off-shift hours.
- Provide leadership for asset management and safety basis teams.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
- Knowledge of accelerator operations and systems, or those of similar scale devices, and their interfaces with facility systems and operations.
- Experience managing facilities with radiological, nuclear, chemical, and/or other comparable hazards.
- Demonstrated skill in identifying problem areas, investigating solutions, and determining actions to be performed.
- Demonstrated understanding of work planning and control including hazard identification, hazards analysis, and control implementation applying the hierarchy of controls for a wide range of complex, hazardous activities.
- Demonstrated ability to provide operations supervisory oversight, including technical direction, program execution, and sound business judgment.
- Demonstrated ability to function as a member of a management team; to work effectively with all levels of internal and external personnel; and to gain consensus, build teams, and resolve conflicts.
- Excellent oral/written communication skills to include presentations and report writing.
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience working with organizations deployed to the FOD (Maintenance, Engineering, Safety Basis, Operations, Radiation Protection, etc.).
- Nuclear material management experience, e.g., MBA custodian qualification.
- Demonstrated ability to oversee accelerator operations and safety basis program implementation.
- Experience with LANL Conduct of Operations, Engineering, Maintenance, and Training programs.
- Experience with abnormal event response, occurrence investigations, and lessons learned.
- Experience leading process improvement initiatives with evidence of successful outcomes.
- Successful completion of the U.S. Particle Accelerator School's Accelerator Fundamentals course.
- Experience in all aspects of personnel management.
- Active Q-Clearance.

Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations areat the discretion of management.
Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Additional Details
