Expected salary range of $108,900 to $121,000, varies based on experience, along with comprehensive benefits package that includes bonus and 401(k).
PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION
The Data Steward Lead is responsible for ensuring that data within the organization is properly cataloged, maintained, and analyzed for quality. They will act as a subject matter expert for data governance practices, including metadata management, data quality assessments, and data stewardship. This role will help the organization improve the discoverability, reliability, and security of its data, ensuring compliance with data governance standards and contributing to the success of various business units.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for data stewardship activities, including data quality, data availability, and compliance metrics. Provide regular reports to stakeholders on data management performance.
- Collaborate with data stewards from different departments to resolve data-related issues, ensuring alignment with the organization's data governance and data quality frameworks.
- Work closely with legal, compliance, and security teams to enforce data privacy regulations such as GDPR, HIPAA, and CCPA. Ensure that data stewards maintain compliance with industry-specific regulations and best practices.
- Develop, implement, and manage the organization's data catalog, ensuring accurate data representation and metadata management to enhance data discoverability and usability across departments.
- Perform complex data quality assessments on data sources and products, ensuring referential and historical integrity. Work closely with stakeholders to resolve issues, conduct root cause analysis, and implement processes for continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with data stewards and governance teams to enforce data governance standards, including data quality, privacy, and security, to ensure compliance with internal and regulatory policies.
- Provide training to team members and stakeholders on best practices in data management, including the use of data catalogs, metadata, and data quality tools. Document processes, data dictionaries, and lineage for transparency and ease of use.
- Stay abreast of emerging trends in data management and governance, recommending and implementing improvements to internal processes and technology usage.
- Provide expertise and support for projects involving data migration, integration, and new data initiatives to ensure seamless integration with the data catalog.
- Perform complex data analysis and provide expertise in researching data sources, acquiring, profiling, analyzing, manipulating data in support of the construction of the data warehouse and maintaining the quality and integrity of the data
- Lead and oversee enterprise-wide data stewardship initiatives ensuring alignment with strategic data governance objectives.
- Facilitate governance adoption by engaging business and IT stakeholders, resolving data-related issues, and ensuring governance accountability at all levels.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or a related discipline with typically 5 to 8 years of experience in data management, data governance, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
- Strong proficiency with data cataloging tools, metadata management platforms, SQL, and data modeling.
- Experience in data quality management and familiarity with ETL processes and data warehouses.
- Demonstrated ability to manage and improve processes involving data quality, metadata, and governance.
- Excellent communication skills, capable of collaborating effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a proactive approach to identifying and resolving issues.
- Proven experience leading data stewardship efforts across business domains, ensuring compliance with data governance policies.
- Hands-on experience implementing data governance processes and managing data stewardship tools such as Microsoft Purview, Collibra, Informatica Data Quality, Alation, or Talend for data cataloging, lineage tracking, and metadata management.
- Demonstrated ability to manage and improve enterprise data stewardship processes, including data quality monitoring, metadata standardization, and issue resolution frameworks.
- Experience mentoring data stewards and business users, ensuring adoption of governance tools and best practices.
- Hands-on experience using Microsoft Purview for managing metadata, enforcing data stewardship policies, and tracking data lineage across the organization's data assets. Ability to configure Purview for automated data classification and governance.
- Experience using data governance platforms such as Collibra, Informatica Data Catalog, or Alation, alongside Microsoft Purview, to implement data standards, track compliance, and maintain high quality metadata.
- Experience in utilizing Power BI or similar reporting tools to visualize and report on data quality metrics, data stewardship activities, and compliance performance. Ability to build dashboards that track data issues and stewardship effectiveness.
- Strong understanding of global data privacy and security regulations (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA, CCPA) and the ability to apply these in data stewardship and governance activities, ensuring that the organization's data practices align with legal and compliance requirements.
- Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams, including business stakeholders, IT, compliance, and security, to ensure alignment between data governance strategies, regulatory mandates, and operational data needs.
- Prior experience leading data stewardship initiatives, mentoring data stewards, and developing best practices for metadata management, data quality monitoring, and data issue resolution workflows.
