Job Description:
Parsons is looking for an Environmental Specialist who will ensure that the contractor complies with environmental regulations and standards during construction activities of a large subway/metro program here in the UAE, a project that will have a long-lasting impact on the local community. The ideal candidate will oversee the implementation of environmental plans and assessments, conduct environmental monitoring, and verify that all necessary permits and documentation are obtained and maintained.
In this role you will get to provide technical leadership and direction for various phases of a significant rail and transit program to assure on-schedule completion within or below budget and in accordance with contractual obligations.
The Environmental Specialist will act as a liaison between the Contractor and Dubai Municipality (DM), ensuring that all environmental standards and requirements are met.
What You'll Be Doing:
- Supervision and Compliance:
- Supervising the Contractor's work related to excavation, demolition, and disposal of contaminated and hazardous materials.
- Supervise the Contractor's excavation and demolition operations to ensure compliance with environmental regulations and contract documents.
- Ensure the Contractor adheres to international and national standards, including those set by the South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) and Dubai Municipality (DM).
- Environmental Monitoring:
- Ensure the Contractor has a plan and procedures for identifying, measuring, and segregating hazardous substances.
- Review the Contractor's notices of anticipated hazardous substances and ensure they are prepared using all available information.
- Permits and Documentation:
- Verify that the Contractor obtains all necessary permits from DM-Waste Management Department and DM-Environmental Sustainability Department.
- Ensure the Contractor provides all required submittals, including MSDS, PPE specifications, and waste disposal facility lists.
- Hazardous Substances Management:
- Ensure the Contractor has a plan and procedures for identifying, measuring, and segregating hazardous substances.
- Review the Contractor's notices of anticipated hazardous substances and ensure they are prepared using all available information.
- Reporting and Communication:
- Prepare and submit regular reports on environmental compliance, monitoring results, and any issues encountered.
- Training and Awareness:
- Promote environmental awareness and ensure all personnel are informed of relevant environmental policies and procedures.
- Complete other responsibilities associated with the position as may be appropriate.
What Required Skills You'll Bring:
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in environmental management, preferably in construction or infrastructure projects.
- In-depth knowledge of local UAE environmental regulations and standards, including hazardous waste management and air quality monitoring.
- Certification in environmental management or related fields (e.g., Certified Environmental Professional) is preferred.
- Rail project experience is preferred.
- GCC experience is preferred.
- Must have experience in Client Interfacing roles.
