POSITION SUMMARY

Under direction, manages and maintains provisioning, installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems and applications. This includes System Administrator engineering and provisioning, operations and support, maintenance and development, and assisting project teams with technical issues to ensure continual innovation.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

System Administration Engineering and Provisioning

  • Configures and installs systems such that system hardware, operating systems, software systems, and related procedures adhere to organizational hardware and software standards.
  • Develops and maintains installation and configuration procedures for systems, user access administration and ensures system security based on established procedures and industry best practices.
  • Contributes with project teams on technical issues and assists with the definition of needs, benefits, and technical strategy; provides technical analysis and design; and supports operations staff in executing, testing, and implementing solutions.
  • Participates in technical research and recommends innovative, and where possible, automated approaches for system administration tasks within the infrastructure. Identifies approaches that leverage our resources and provide economies of scale.
Operations and Support
  • Performs daily system monitoring; verifies the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes; reviews system and application logs; and verifies completion of scheduled jobs such as backups.
  • Executes regular security monitoring to identify any possible intrusions.
  • Performs regular file archival and purges as necessary.
  • Maintains user accounts per request.
  • Provides support per request from various constituencies; investigates and troubleshoots reported issues.
  • Maintains the performance of the enterprise system that is tightly integrated to other systems of CTA. Troubleshooting the system extends to following the data flow between interfacing systems and correct the cause of failure.
  • Provides tier 1 support for system issues.
  • Provides after hours and weekend support.
Maintenance
  • Applies system patches and upgrades on a regular basis, and upgrades administrative tools and utilities. Configures and adds new services as necessary.
  • Upgrades and configures system software that supports operational needs.
  • Performs periodic performance reporting to support capacity planning.
  • Travels between CTA locations to troubleshoot sign-in KIOSK equipment.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 3 years of experience in system administration.
  • 2 years of experience in query and script development, and Crystal reports and other reporting tools.
  • Previous experience in building a windows desktop image as a KIOSK.
  • Previous experience with PowerShell, windows certificates and windows security, and XML/XSL, HTML
  • Previous experience working with transit applications (Hastus, Trapeze OPS) preferred.
  • Systems Administration/System Engineer related certification preferred.
  • Previous software experience in a Windows RPD environment
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Requires remaining in a stationary position for extended periods of time and constantly operating a computer and other office productivity machinery.
  • May be required to move and maneuver equipment up to 25 pounds.
  • Service Area Requirement: Exempt (Non-Union) employees must live within the boundaries of the CTA Statutory Service Area either at the time of employment or within 6 months of beginning employment at CTA.

  • Ability to successfully plan, deploy, install, and upgrade products within required timelines.
  • Ability to define, plan, and design innovative solutions, including financial analysis of technical alternatives, to meet business needs.
  • Ability to produce technical reports, analysis, and statistical reports using desktop publishing software and IT tools related to this position.
  • Ability to operate within an enterprise class environment. This includes maintaining different environments of the application - test, training, development and productions systems and adherence to Enterprise formal change control procedures.
  • Working knowledge of SQL databases and ability to write SQL statements - MSSQL.
  • Working knowledge of LAN/WAN and experienced on deployment load balancers and network equipment's and protocols like HTTPS, sFTP, SSH, SSL, TLS.
  • Advanced knowledge of VM server environments.
WORKING CONDITIONS
  • General office environment
  • Requires travel to locations throughout the CTA system as needed.
  • May be contacted outside of regular business hours in order to support 24/7 operations.
