Temporary Physics Technician - Military Veterans

Position Overview
The University of Kansas Department of Physics is searching for a Part-Time Temporary Research Technician. This position will work with the experimental particle physics tracker group to help assemble and test order 1000 fine pitch electronics cables. The cables are made from 36 AWG wire that needs to be custom cut for the different assemblies, the dielectric chemically stripped, solder to Kapton paddleboards, and apply epoxy to protect the fragile cables. Quality assurance is needed in coordination with the engineering and physicist members of the group.
Job Description
50% - Soldering electrical components
20% - Stripping cable assemblies
20% - Epoxying and testing components
10% - Meeting and communicating with experimental physics group
Position Requirements
This position is fully on-site; 1082 Malott Hall, Lawrence, Ks
Required Qualifications

  1. High school diploma or GED equivalent
  2. Three months' experience with electrical assembly and fine pitch soldering as evidenced by application materials
  3. Good written communication skills as evidenced by application materials.

Preferred Qualifications
  1. Electronics technical training or certification, as demonstrated in application materials.
