The Ag Sensing Lab in the Department of Food, Agricultural and Biological Engineering at the Ohio State University is recruiting a Postdoctoral Research Associate (postdoc) to work at the forefront of precision agriculture and contribute to the development of cutting-edge tools and methodologies that advance crop science and sustainable agriculture practices. The successful candidate will play a key role in designing and implementing innovative solutions at the intersection of sensor data collection, machine learning, and real-time decision-making. Specifically, the candidate will contribute to projects focused on developing advanced machine learning models to quantify phenotypic traits of crops, including corn, soybean, and other selected species. These models will leverage data collected from various sources, such as unmanned aerial systems (UAS or drones), satellite imagery, and other spatial-temporal datasets. In addition to machine learning development, the candidate will be actively involved in the design and development of a custom ground-based platform for efficient and accurate collection of sensor data. This platform will support the integration of machine learning models for real-time decision-making, enabling scalable and actionable insights in agricultural applications. The successful candidate is expected to publish research findings in international peer-reviewed journals, present research findings in conferences/meetings, generate regular project update reports, assist in grant proposal writing, supervise graduate and undergraduate students, and assist with other research activities, as needed. The candidate should have strong analytical, mechanical, organizational, and planning skills, and is expected to work independently as well as in a team. The candidate will have an opportunity to work closely with an interdisciplinary team of researchers from various disciplines, such as agricultural engineering, mechanical engineering, agronomy, computer science, and soil science. The ideal candidates should have: Ph.D. degree in agricultural engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or computer science; or other related disciplines Understanding of agricultural production systems in the U.S Experience working with spatial data and machine learning models. Strong knowledge of programming languages, such as Python, R . Demonstrated skills in scientific writing, publications, and communication The position is initially for two years and can be extended, pending satisfactory performance.
