The Financial Aid Advisor I, under direction, counsels and provides student financial aid and scholarship information to prospective and currently enrolled students and their families. Assists in facilitating workshops and learns to make presentations on and off campus to groups regarding financial aid and scholarships. This is an in office position located in Stephenville, Texas. Work Hours are Monday through Friday from 8am to 5pm or as work requirements indicate. Must have the ability to work remotely at the request of the university in times of inclement weather or other special circumstances. Responsibilities: 25% Advises and counsels students, parents, and/or prospective students by explaining the scholarship application and awarding process while also providing information regarding options available through other financial aid such as loans, grants, and employment. Assists current and potential students, and their parents, with the scholarship process by responding to questions/concerns through email, phone, or in-person. Provides support for special programs such as scholarships funded by grants, Study Abroad Scholarships, and special trust programs managed by Tarleton State University. 20% Processes and tracks private scholarships from outside resources (over 3 million dollars yearly). Conducts reconciliations daily to Banner and bi-annually to FAMIS/Canopy. Tracks non-disbursed private scholarships and works with the requisition software to set-up vendors through Texas A&M University by obtaining W-9 forms and requesting refunds. Manages over-awards by adjusting financial aid as needed when posting private scholarships. 15% Performs reviews of scholarship recipients at the end of each term to verify continuing eligibility of scholarship award. Notifies students of probationary or cancellation status and makes adjustments as needed on their financial aid package. 15% Performs outreach by conducting informational sessions while working with various departments and off-site campuses. Assists in developing publications and brochures for donors, currently enrolled students, prospective students, and their parents. 10% Assists in identifying non-resident students on scholarship(s) where out-of-state waivers will be applied. Works with Financial Aid to adjust cost of attendance budgets to reflect in-state tuition. Cancels and removes waivers on students that become ineligible. 10% Uses Academic Works to pull reports to flag scholarship applicants in Banner, identify qualified applicants for scholarship committees, and post accepted scholarships from Academic Works to Banner. Pulls reports to identify non-disbursed scholarships and corrects/cancels awards accordingly. 5% Assists the Director and Scholarship Coordinator in implementing new scholarship programs such as the guaranteed award program for incoming students and transfer, graduate student initiatives, System programs, and other duties as assigned. Education and Experience: -Bachelors degree or an equivalent combination of training and experience Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: -Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications. Oral and written communication skills. Customer Service skills. -Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others. Ability to work individually or as a team. Ability to organize and make decisions. Ability to relate well with a student population. Other Requirements: Some experience in planning, organizing, or in higher education preferred. The target base base hourly compensation is $20.03 and may be negotiable based on funding availability and candidate experience/skillset in relation to the minimum requirements of this position.
