Job Summary:
The IT Vice President Technology, Platforms and Operations (TPO) is a strategic leader responsible for managing and optimizing the organization's technology infrastructure. This role involves overseeing the design, implementation, and maintenance of IT systems, networks, End User environment and operations.
Reporting directly to the Avangrid CIO, the VP collaborates with cross-functional both internal in IT and Business teams to ensure efficient, reliable, and secure technology solutions, that align with Avangrid business objectives.
This role plays a pivotal role in shaping the organization's technology landscape, ensuring reliability, security, and scalability.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the design, deployment, and operations for the following IT technologies: Network Engineering, Network Security, Database, SAP Basis, Cloud Computing, Storage, Backup, Virtualization, On-Prem datacenter, Digital Workplace, End users' solutions, and mobile technologies.
- Oversee the design, deployment, and maintenance of network infrastructure, including LAN, WAN, cloud, and data centers. Manage server environments, storage systems, andvirtualization platforms. Ensure high availability, disaster recovery, and business continuity. Evaluate and implement cloud-based solutions in an environment to optimize infrastructure. Develop hybrid multi-cloud cloud strategies that balance on-premises and cloud resources (AWS, Azure, Nutanix). Develop, lead, and operate GEN AI Avangrid Center of Competence.
- Responsible for all aspects related to IT Operations. Evolve Technology Operations from a traditional approach to innovative smart operations under the foundation of advanced monitoring, automated change management, advanced analytics, innovation, and full stack observability. Ensure infrastructure availability KPIs are met.
- In partnership with the applications teams, ensure that disaster recovery and business continuity plans are defined, maintained, and exercised periodically.
- Area of scope include IT Corporate systems all Avangrid Operating companies both Renewables, Networks, covering 400+ assets distributed in several states in the USA, 3M+ Customers, 8GW Renewables Generation, and supporting 12K+ Avangrid employees and contractors.
- Implement ITIL best practices for change management, incident management, and problem resolution. Continuously improve processes to enhance efficiency and service delivery.
- Collaborate with Avangrid Corporate Security, Global Security Office to ensure compliance with security policy and full integration of Security in all technology towers. Support the execution and operation of Avangrid Corporate Security Program.
- Modernize and secure company infrastructure by defining and directing deployment of Technology programs, life cycle, automation deployment, and continuous internal transformation within all technology towers. Project portfolios include around 100+ projects per year.
- Develop and execute a long-term infrastructure strategy aligned with the organization's goals. Evaluate existing infrastructure, identify areas for improvement, and plan for future scalability.
- Stay informed about industry trends and emerging technologies to drive innovation.
- Support CIO in defining strategy, prioritizing, and executing the Technology portfolio. Influence cross-functional stakeholders, executives, business, and technology functions to align goals and strategy.
- Work closely with the business to perform needs analysis and create synergies between the various business functions and IT.
- Translate Company priorities into achievable, financially solid technology and optimization initiatives. Define clear KPI to measure impact into business value and process improvement.
- Develop and manage the IT TPO budget. Define, control, and execute capital and operational budget ($MM), including continuous transformation and efficiency programs to enhance resource maximization and technology value. Ensure full alignment to regulatory requirements, forecast and adherence to long term outlook.
- Lead a team of highly technical skilled IT professionals in all technology areas. Foster a collaborative and innovative work environment. Provide mentorship, coaching, and professional development opportunities.
- Responsible for IT Technology Vendor management. Work closely with vendors and service providers to negotiate contracts, monitor service levels, and manage relationships. Manage 40+ Company strategy vendors and contracts for values circa ($MMM).
- Communicate infrastructure-related updates, risks, and performance metrics to senior leadership and other stakeholders. Collaborate with business units to understand their technology needs and align infrastructure accordingly.
- Champions best practices in a high-volume, dynamic environment. Ensures the enterprise has the capability to support new technology and maintain high levels of service. Creates a sustainable, compliant IT environment to facilitate growth, including ITIL, SOX, and NERC/CIP compliance.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Systems, or a related field (Master's preferred).
- 20 years proven experience in IT infrastructure, technology, and operations management leadership roles.
- 15 years leadership experience working in IT Infrastructure functions.
- Technical mindset. Understanding of all managed technologies included in the area.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated history of exceptional end user service.
- Strong history of managing complex efforts with demanding users and stakeholders.
- Strong background managing IT technology in a multistate and national company.
- Working knowledge of the regulatory environment for utility companies including NERC CIP and SOX requirements.
- Experience leading teams of a 100-200 people including employees and professional services, coordinated in a service level approach.
- Strong experience managing budget in a multistate utility regulated environment.
- Strong leadership, team collaboration and staff development skills.
- Highly developed ability to resolve complex problems and negotiate successful outcomes.
- Ability to build effective relationships with key stakeholders.
- Strong business orientation and presentation skills.
- Strong process improvement and continuous transformation skills.
- Understanding and experience developing IT operations based on ITIL.
- Proven ability to work in a complex environment with many competing priorities and stakeholder demands.
