Classification Title : Admission Counselor Department: Admissions Full-Time/Part-Time: Full-Time Months per Year: 12 Months Position Summary : The Admission Counselor's main objective is to recruit students and follow through with the admissions process until students' matriculate. This position evaluates students' academic credentials and makes decisions regarding the individuals' admissibility to the University according to current admissions criteria and the University of North Carolina system requirements. This position has the authority to bind the institution to admissions decisions. Assigned to a specific geographical territory, the Admission Counselor carries comprehensive territory management responsibilities for all recruitment and communication activities in order to meet the university enrollment goals, including counseling, recruiting, and evaluating prospective students who express interest in UNC Asheville. All of these actions require interpersonal, computer and organizational skills. This position also involves outreach actions to increase awareness of UNC Asheville with high school, transfer, traditional, non-traditional and international students as well as parents, secondary schools and community colleges personnel in order to bring them into the process of working with prospective students, applicants and newly matriculating students. Minimum Education/Experience/Skill : A Bachelor's degree, outstanding public speaking, oral and written skills, excellent computer skills, outstanding customer service skills and a valid driver's license are required. Preferred Education/Experience/Skill : Previous experience in admissions and/or K-12 education is preferred. Candidates with 2-4 years of experience working with students in the K-12, community college, or university setting are strongly preferred. May also consider applicants with experience working in a higher education setting. Familiarity with the UNC System and/or UNC Asheville alumnus would be ideal.
