  • Additional hours in counseling and/or student services preferred.

The Executive Vice President / Chief Academic Officer (EVP/CAO) provides institutional leadership, strategic planning, and operational oversight for academic, workforce development, continuing education, and student services at Southeastern Community College (SCC). Reporting directly to the President, the EVP serves as the chief academic officer, supervising the Associate Vice President of Education & Training and all Deans to ensure that SCC?s curriculum, workforce training, and student services meet the evolving needs of students, employers, and the broader community. This position leads efforts in curriculum and workforce continuing education program development, institutional effectiveness, accreditation compliance, student success strategies, workforce and industry partnerships, enrollment management, budget oversight, and faculty and staff development. The EVP collaborates with the Chief Operations Officer and other administrators to integrate academic and operational planning while also engaging with state, regional, and national agencies, secondary and postsecondary institutions, local employers, and community organizations to enhance education and workforce training programs. The EVP participates in joint planning with other educational, public agencies, and private sectors; exercises professional judgment with a high degree of latitude in attaining institutional goals and objectives.
Collaboration with the President and Chief Operations Officer
  • Lead a large, complex educational institution through strategic academic planning, institutional effectiveness, and program innovation.
  • Develop and implement long-range strategic plans that focus on student success and workforce training.
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations, accreditation requirements, and institutional policies.
  • Serve as lead administrator in the absence of the President.
Oversight of Instructional Programs
  • Direct and evaluate curriculum, workforce development, continuing education, and student services.
  • Oversee the development, scheduling, and delivery of courses in on-campus, online, and hybrid formats.
  • Ensure course schedules and instructional formats align with student needs and workforce demands.
  • Establish and monitor program evaluation systems to enhance instructional quality and workforce readiness.
  • Ensure faculty credentialing, instructional quality, and student success initiatives are consistently implemented.
  • Direct the development and administration of budgets for all curriculum, workforce continuing education, and student service divisions.
Development and Implementation of New Academic and Workforce Programs
  • Oversee the development, modification, and assessment of curriculum and workforce development continuing education programs.
  • Work with the Associate Vice President of Education & Training to create articulation agreements, apprenticeships, and certification pathways.
  • Ensure all programs comply with accreditation, certification, and industry credentialing standards.
  • Facilitate the creation of new programs to meet emerging workforce demands and educational needs.
  • Conduct comprehensive research and analysis to ensure alignment of program offerings with industry and student needs.
Leadership in Student-Centered Services
  • Ensure all curriculum and workforce development continuing education programs align with local, regional, and state workforce demands.
  • Establish and monitor performance measures to track institutional effectiveness in student outcomes and workforce readiness.
  • Provide oversight of dual enrollment, early college, and high school partnerships to enhance the student transition experience.
  • Advocate for and implement initiatives that promote student retention, completion, and success.
  • Maintain a climate that encourages faculty retention, high morale, and pursuit of instructional excellence.
  • Ensure faculty and staff receive mentorship, training, and ongoing professional development.
  • Oversee student admissions, registration, financial aid, advising, career services, recruitment, and academic support programs.
  • Ensure that the instructional divisions collaborate with Student Services to implement strategies that support student engagement, advising, and student success.
Resource and Budget Management
  • Collaborate with the COO on budget planning, fiscal management, and resource allocation for all academic and student service programs.
  • Ensure effective use of technology and instructional resources to support student success and operational efficiency.
  • Monitor state, local, and special funding sources to support program expansion and sustainability.
  • Forecast budget needs and collaborate with the associate vice president, deans and directors to assess future resource requirements.
  • Promote facilities planning for educational, training, and instructional spaces to enhance teaching and learning.
Grant Management and External Funding Opportunities
  • Identify grant opportunities and external funding sources to support educational and workforce initiatives.
  • Lead efforts in grant writing, reporting, and implementation for academic programs.
  • Ensure compliance with grant regulations and performance metrics to maximize funding impact.
  • Collaborate with industry partners and community stakeholders to secure sponsorships, donations, and alternative funding sources.
Accreditation, State and Federal Compliance, and Institutional Audits
  • Oversee SACSCOC accreditation compliance and reporting, while the designated Accreditation Liaison handles direct responsibilities.
  • Ensure compliance with other accreditation agencies, certification bodies, and regulatory organizations.
  • Oversee state and federal program audits, ensuring that all instructional programs, financial aid, and student services meet regulatory guidelines.
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal policies affecting curriculum, workforce development, and student services.
  • Provide oversight and leadership for compliance with Title IV, V, VII, IX.
  • Ensure compliance with policies of WIOA, NC Works, Veterans Affairs, SCC, NC Community College System, and other applicable State/Federal agencies.
Institutional Marketing and Outreach
  • Work with the Director of Marketing & Communications to develop recruitment, branding, and outreach strategies.
  • Establish and oversee marketing initiatives to enhance student enrollment, retention, and community engagement.
  • Oversee the development of strategic enrollment initiatives that target underserved populations and expand access to SCC?s educational programs.
  • Collaborate with internal departments to align marketing strategies with institutional goals, ensuring consistent messaging and branding across all outreach efforts.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of recruitment, marketing, and outreach campaigns by analyzing enrollment trends and adjusting strategies to improve engagement and student enrollment outcomes.
Representation, Industry Partnerships and Institutional Advocacy
  • Strengthen partnerships with businesses, industries, K-12 institutions, governmental agencies, and community organizations.
  • Oversee industry advisory boards and engage employers in curriculum development and workforce training initiatives.
  • Represent SCC at community events, workforce development meetings, and education leadership conferences.
  • Advocate for community college education and workforce training at local, regional, and national levels.
  • Engage in statewide and national higher education leadership initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
