Position Summary Washington University seeks an advancement professional for the position of Director of Strategy. University Advancement strives to advance the mission of the university by creating a culture of philanthropy among alumni, students, faculty, and friends.
The Director of Strategy will be responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive fundraising strategy that aligns with our organization's mission and objectives. This role requires exceptional leadership abilities, strong analytical skills, and a deep understanding of fundraising practices and trends. The successful candidate will have a proven track record in fundraising strategy development and implementation, as well as the ability to engage and mobilize stakeholders towards achieving fundraising goals.
Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
School/Unit goal and oversight of key priorities and prospect pool
- Develop detailed knowledge of key program priorities and the University priorities that align with them.
- Manage campaign initiatives and gift tables.
- Maintain the list of top school/unit prospects.
- Develop goals annually for the Division of Student Affairs.

UA Collaborations
- Support relationships across University Advancement for the Division of Student Affairs.
- Drive accountability for agreed-upon deliverables and successful proposal closure.
- Navigate and manage the development of gift agreements and donor expectations in collaboration with gift officers.
Donor Strategy Development
- Ensure generalist colleagues have effective school and program-based strategies for the Division of Student Affairs.
- Support unit-based training for gift officers.
- Serve as subject matter expert for giving opportunities in the Division of Student Affairs.
Leadership staffing and engagement
- Prepare leadership for donor meetings and events locally and out of town as needed.
- Provide strategy oversight for the Student Affairs National Council.
Operations
- Inform staffing and performance management.
- Implement annual operational plans (events calendar, communication calendar, objectives and key results, etc.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions:

- Normal office working environment.
- Travel as required to various departments on campus and assist with both on-campus and off-campus events.
- Some evening and early morning hours may be required.

Salary Range $84,200.00 - $148,500.00 / Annually
The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
