Athletic Trainer - Military Veterans

at HERC- Upper MidWest

To recognize, evaluate, screen and treat orthopedic and sport disabilities and injuries; to provide emergency medical care, and to develop or restore function through therapeutic treatments as prescribed or directed by a physician.

We are currently seeking a licensed Athletic Trainer with sports medicine experience join our interdisciplinary MedSport team. This is an Outreach Athletic Trainer position with clinical responsibilities with primary location at the Northville Heath Center. Athletic training responsibilities will support the contract with the Michigan Hawks Women's Soccer Club and our outpatient physical therapy clinic. This athletic trainer will be responsible for development and integration of sport performance and injury prevention programming for the teams as well as scrimmage and game coverage on weekends. This position is part of our MedSport Outreach Athletic training program and will support the department as needed.

To recognize, evaluate, screen and treat orthopedic and sport disabilities and injuries; to provide emergency medical care, and to develop or restore function through therapeutic treatments as prescribed or directed by a physician. This role supports MedSport Services in Ambulatory Rehab inclusive of Outreach Athletic Training Program. This position requires extensive standing/walking, as well as lifting, positioning, pushing, and/or transferring of patients.

  • Deliver direct patient care independently or with a team approach in conjunction with a physician, physical therapist and assistive personnel.
  • Apply strapping, bandaging, or bracing designed to prevent or protect athletes against injury.
  • Administer therapeutic techniques and modalities such as ultrasound, electrostimulation, hydrotherapy, cryotherapy, as well as active, passive, and assistive exercises.
  • Perform preliminary evaluations, screen injuries and refer individuals to physicians.
  • Assist in development of rehabilitation programs with physical therapist.
  • Administer first aid to injured athletes.
  • Assist in development of conditioning programs.
  • Assist in development and implementation of training menus and diets.
  • Assist in training of students who are in the athletic training intern program.
  • Process patient care orders using the electronic ordering system may be required in certain areas.
  • A Bachelor's degree in Athletic Training or related health field or an equivalent combination of education and experience is necessary.
  • Must be certified by the National Athletic Trainers Association.
  • Must obtain license by the State of Michigan within two months of hire.
  • Must have current CPR and first aid certification.
  • Experience with soccer performance enhancement and injury prevention programming
  • Experience with Women?s athletics
  • Clinical experience with post-operative rehabilitation
  • NSCA/CSCS certification

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the United Michigan Medicine Allied Professionals (UMMAP), which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours, and other terms and conditions of employment.
