What You Will Do
You will report to the Waste Facilities Operations (CWF-WF) Manager. You will be responsible for supervision and oversight of the Waste Facilities operations. Oversee, authorize and manage all day to day operational and activities. Ensures facility and personal safety, security and regulatory compliance for work activities. Participate in investigations following abnormal occurrences to identify and correct the cause of the event and properly report it in accordance with Department of Energy (DOE) and Laboratory directives. Ensure proper communication to employees and other organizations on the implementation of operational management policies, procedures and practices.

The selected candidate will report to the CWF-WF TWF/RANT Operations Manager serving as the primary interface between the tenant organizations, support services subcontractors and FOD to review and implement DOE O 422.1, Conduct of Operations.


What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

Operational Systems: Full knowledge of operational management including systems design, maintenance, safety, configuration management, work control, facility control systems and upgrades and renovations as assigned.

Leadership: Familiarity with acting as 'Person-in-Charge' or Leader during abnormal or emergent events.

Problem Solving: Experience and demonstrated skill in identifying problem areas, investigating alternative solutions, and determining action to be performed on problems affecting operations management.

Management: Demonstrated skill in management, supervision, and direction of assigned teams and/or employees.

Maintenance: Working knowledge of LANL conduct of maintenance, conduct of engineering, conduct of operations and quality assurance programs.

Policy and Procedure: Full understanding of work hazards, safety practices, operating configuration, and LANL Policy P101-3 lock-out/tag-out policies and procedures. Demonstrated experience working within a formal Conduct of Operations framework (DOE or equivalent).

Training: Familiarity with training and qualification requirements.

Equipment: Demonstrated knowledge of facility process equipment and operation.

Compliance: Advanced knowledge and experience developing, revising and approving technical work documents in accordance with the DOE writer's guide, or equivalent, ensuring technical accuracy and compliance with all nuclear standards, processes and procedures.

Education/Experience : Position requires a Bachelor's degree and 1 year of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

DOE O 426.2 : Requires a High School Diploma and 3 years nuclear experience.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Advanced knowledge of P300 and the attributes of a sound conduct of operations program.
  • Knowledge of the Laboratory's issues management process and performance measurement processes.
  • Advanced knowledge of documentation quality assurance, including document controls and records management.
  • Advanced knowledge of operations to comply with Limiting Conditions of Operation (LCO) as specified in the Technical Safety Requirements (TSR), including the management and supervision of surveillances and inspections in support of DSA/TSR compliance.
Work Schedule: Position will require on-call and seasonal rotating 4/10 schedule.

Work Location : The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Additional Details
Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 . Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.

Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

426.2: This position is subject to DOE Order 426.2, Personnel Selection, Training, and Qualification Requirements for DOE Nuclear Facilities, which establishes entry-level requirements to ensure candidates selected for specific positions can successfully perform the requirements of the job.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.

Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory.
