Job DescriptionMetro State University, Minnesota?s public, urban university, and four-time recipient of the Insight into Diversity Higher Education Excellence in Diversity (HEED) Award is seeking to hire a Grant Accountant. This is a full -time position within the Metro State Applied Innovation Institute.Job Responsibilities:This position functions as a fiscal officer for the Metro State Applied Innovation Institute (MSAII) in compliance with federal and State of Minnesota law, Minnesota State Board Policies and System Procedures, campus policies, and the terms of assigned grant and other program agreements/contracts and amendments; develops, maintains, and interprets financial information systems; analyzes and interprets fiscal data to provide grant and general accounting support for federal, state and private grant programs in addition to leveraged equipment and collaborative fund programs for the entire life-cycle of assigned programs; maintains effective working relationships with internal and external clientele as it relates to assigned programs; serves as backup support for the Financial Aid Accountant; monitor, reconcile, and report on other activities as assigned; may provide leadwork to Accounting Technicians or clerical employees engaged in fiscal operations; performs related work as required.Minimum QualificationsThe following qualifications are required of all applicants seeking consideration for this position. Only applicants whose resumes clearly demonstrate fulfillment of each of these minimum qualifications will be considered for the position:Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and practices and bookkeeping sufficient to analyze and interpret fiscal data including the ability to code, process, post, and investigate accounting transactions.Knowledge of budget terminology and principles sufficient to assist in preparing a program budget.Knowledge of statewide accounting (or comparable) system sufficient to compile, analyze, and interpret fiscal information for use by management.Knowledge of auditing principles and procedures sufficient to provide information to assist in the audit of a division or agency.Ability to relate accounting systems to overall functions of the University including the ability to use databases, spreadsheets, word processing and operating systems to prepare reports, invoices, reconciliations and letters in an electronic format.Ability to prepare and interpret complex fiscal reports and records.Ability to interpret federal and state laws and Minnesota State and University fiscal policies.Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with and provide exceptional customer service to internal and external clientele including the ability to serve as liaison for the University?s community as it relates to assigned grant and other programs.Preferred QualificationAssociate degree in accounting or finance.Two to three years of related accounting experience.Knowledge of non-profit accounting or comparable policies and procedures.Understanding of private and non-profit financial administration principles as it relates to contracts, grants and other activities.Knowledge, experience, and understanding of private/governmental accounting systems sufficient to query and compile records and reports.Other RequirementsPhysical Requirements of the Job: Light: Requires occasionally transporting such articles as file boxes and heavy hand tools or heavier materials with help from others and/or transporting light objects frequently.
