DATA SCIENTIST ASSISTANT

Under direct supervision, responsible for analyzing complex data and providing data-driven reports for their unit. Manages statistical data and creates predictive models based on the unit's needs. Effectively visualizes complex datasets for the production of high-quality figures. Processes research information for easier consumption and transforms it into actionable plans. Provides value to unit through findings and thoughtful insights

Key Roles & Responsibilities

Data Analysis, and Reporting

  • Conduct data extractions and analyze to support program evaluations, performance metrics, strategic decision-making, and reporting for the Substance Abuse Division of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neurobiology.
  • Develop weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual reports as needed for distribution to internal staff and state, federal, and local funding sponsors.
  • Extract data from multiple sources, including FileMaker, Cerner, and Epic. Produce analytical reports using descriptive statistics and data visualization techniques, and effectively communicate findings to key stakeholders enable data-driven decision making.
  • Present findings to internal stakeholders to ensure compliance with partner requirements.
  • Assist in data cleaning, management, and quality checks.
  • Develop effective automation solutions for repetitive tasks to improve workflow within the department.

Database Operations

  • Ensure that databases are operational and accessible to all employees, providing technical support when needed.
  • Work with UAB and UAHSF information systems units to manage database operations, ensuring smooth functionality, system upgrades, and troubleshooting.
  • Collaborate with program staff and database staff to ensure alignment in division operations and data tracking.
  • Manages statistical data and creates predictive models based on the unit's needs.
  • Effectively visualizes complex datasets for the production of high-quality figures.
  • Processes research information for easier consumption and transforms it into actionable plans.
  • Provides value to unit through findings and thoughtful insights.


Program Evaluation

  • Contribute to the selection of appropriate statistical methods and study design.
  • Conduct statistical analyses and preparation of data for presentation and dissemination.
  • Generate and test hypotheses. Analyze and interpret results.
  • Assist in documentation of reporting of results.
  • Conduct comprehensive analyses to evaluate service-related program efficiency, performance, client outcomes, and system processes.
  • Research relevant literature for various projects
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Work Characteristics

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field required. Statistics, Mathematics, Data Science, or related field with significant quantitative analysis.
  • Experience using Excel for data analysis is required.
  • Preferred experience using R, Python, SQL, Power BI, SPSS Knowledge of Psychometrics


Salary Range: $ 70, 425-$91,550-$114,440
