Drama Teacher, Half Year Leave Replacement (Late August through Early February)
Start Date: August 27, 2025

End Date: February 6, 2026

Salary: 61K-150K

Schedule: The hours for this position are typically 8:00 AM-4:00 PM, Mondays through Fridays, and until 5:00 PM on Wednesdays for a weekly afternoon faculty meeting. This role also includes occasional overnight work and occasional event support that may happen early mornings, evenings, or weekends.

About the Position
The Bank Street School for Children is seeking a passionate, knowledgeable, and team-oriented Drama Teacher. This role will primarily work with students in grades 2 through 8 but may teach or have responsibilities with other grade levels as the needs of the school change. This role may also teach some after school classes that fall within the scheduled hours. The ideal candidate will be team oriented, collaborative, and able to work with a broad range of community members
Work with Children & Parents
- Teach a drama curriculum to elementary and middle school aged children that is responsive to children's developmental capacities and needs. Generate enthusiasm for the subject being taught and inspire all students to work to their potential
- Direct, manage, and organize the annual school musical. Collaborate with the music department, teachers, and school leadership to create a successful musical experience.
- Support the upkeep and management of the auditorium and costume room. Work with the IT and facilities department to keep the auditorium functioning and meeting the needs of the school.
- Document lesson plans and update curriculum with guidance from supervisor and in collaboration with other members of the humanities team
- Collaborate with classroom teachers and other specialists to support curriculum and children's development
- Organizing and maintaining a positive classroom community that reflects curricular work
- Differentiating instruction to support group and individual learning
- Coordinate with school leadership, teachers, and leadership around curriculum, social-emotional needs, and academic needs
- Communicate with families about student progress as needed via email, phone call, or in-person meetings
- Promote high standards of behavior by encouraging a positive, proactive approach to studying and build productive relationships with students
- Assign homework which is appropriate in terms of volume and learning goals
- Assess student's work accurately and regularly, giving thoughtful and meaningful feedback.
- Sharing progress and concerns with families through conferences, written reports, and regular parent communication
- Teaching after school classes as assigned. After school classes may include students outside of the typical age range. Document lesson plans and curriculum for after school classes.

Other Responsibilities
- Attending regular faculty, division, department, and supervisory meetings
- Support school coverage needs by substituting for teachers within the division and across the school
- Attend chorus as assigned to support students and the music team
- Provide extra help to students as necessary and as assigned, within an equitable workload. Extra help may occur outside of typical instructional periods such as during work periods or after school.
- Fulfill weekly communities duties as assigned which may include but are not limited to lunch, recess, early morning care, and bus
- Support with some event or trip planning duties as assigned. Examples have included planning trips, coordinating events, and supporting weekly assemblies.
- Additional duties assigned as specified by supervisor

QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates should have:
- Experience teaching drama to a range of age levels
- At least 3-5 years teaching experience in general
- Master's degree preferred
- Demonstrated knowledge and expertise in child development
- Experience with Google Suite, and adept at use of technology to support teaching and learning
- Strong organizational skills, including time management
- Strong grasp of progressive classroom management techniques
- Experience writing narrative reports about student progress and goals
- Ability to meet and adhere to multiple deadlines
- High energy, a sense of humor, and a strong ability to connect with adolescents
- Demonstrated classroom management skills
