Position Specific Description

The Power Delivery Engineering & Technical Services Department at Florida Power & Light is seeking an Engineer I to join their team at the Reliability Assurance Center, Riviera Beach, FL.The Reliability Assurance Center is an OSHA VPP Star site that provides materials, electrical, corrosion, and field testing services for comprehensive evaluation of new products, failed components, and in-service equipment.

An employee in this role will primarily conduct field service testing of cathodically protected underground components at power plants and along transmission lines around the state of Florida. Travel will be frequent, and overnight travel will be required on occasion. Travel outside of Florida may be required on occasion. When not conducting field service testing, an employee in this role will consult on corrosion control efforts in an array of applications. This will include providing specification of materials and coatings, overseeing projects from a technical perspective, and providing quality checks. The employee in this role will also conduct accelerated corrosion testing on a variety of products, with opportunity to learn and perform other materials testing and failure analysis.

This position provides an Engineer with the opportunity to develop a diverse skill set and understanding of equipment design and failure modes, and field and lab testing activities.

This dynamic role requires working outside, lifting equipment up to 50 pounds, climbing and working from ladders, using hand and power tools, and operating heavy equipment such as a forklift and manlift. As a VPP Star Site, the Reliability Assurance Center provides extensive safety training to employees to help ensure we meet our goal of having no injuries. It is expected that every employee not only follow all safety rules and policies, but are actively engaged in maintaining and improving the safety program at the Reliability Assurance Center.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's in Materials, Chemical, Corrosion, or applicable engineering discipline.
  • 3+ years Experience
  • Valid Driver's License (non-CDL)
Desired Qualifications:
  • General knowledge or experience with corrosion, cathodic protection, protective coatings, designing for corrosion control, material selection to mitigate corrosion, and corrosion assessments.
  • General knowledge or experience with design, testing, or troubleshooting cathodic protection systems for buried tanks and piping; for immersed pumps and screens; and for the interiors of pipes, tanks and vessels containing seawater and freshwater. (AMPP Cathodic Protection Specialist certification desirable, or capable of obtaining)
  • General knowledge or experience with protective coatings.
  • EIT or PE License.
