General Requirements:

High School graduate or G.E.D. equivalent. Experience working in maintenance or related field preferred. Locksmith experience preferred. A combination of education, experience, and training that would produce the required knowledge and abilities could be considered.

Nature & Purpose of Position/Usual Duties:

Performs entry-level locksmith specialist duties. Works with departmental locksmith to learn the locks and locking systems associated with the residence halls and to learn journey level locksmith skills as well as to provide support to the general maintenance staff of the department.

Primary Responsibilities (Staff Positions Only):

Installs, maintains, adjusts, and repairs all types of locks and locking hardware. Must be able to use meter to troubleshoot, diagnose and repair non-working card swiping lock systems. Order and inventory replacement locks and parts for all types of locks associated within the residence halls and Residence Life Maintenance. Uses computers and software to document completed corrective work orders and preventative maintenance work orders. Ability to use the tools of the trade in which the work is to be performed. Performs semi-skilled tasks in construction, repairs and maintenance of structures. Performs drywall repair, texturing, painting, lathe, rough concrete laying, and patch plastering. Unstops sinks, drains, commodes, hand basins, sewer lines, and heating, ventilation, and air conditioner condensate drains. Makes minor repairs and adjustments to electrical (switches, plugs, and light fixtures), carpentry (furniture and doors), plumbing (commodes, faucets, and shower fixtures). Performs other related duties as assigned.
