Information Systems Architect - Military Veterans

Job Description
Montgomery College, Rockville, Maryland has an immediate need for a full-time Information Systems Architect in the Student Information Department at Central Services. The work schedule is Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. This is a non-bargaining, exempt, grade 31 position. This eligibility is subject to change based on the needs of the unit.

The Systems Architect will play a critical role in the design, implementation, maintenance, and support of student enterprise systems, to ensure data integrity, system stability, and efficient business processes. This role provides end-user support for student information systems, including the Student Information System (SIS), web-based self-service applications, and third-party student systems to support Student Affairs and administrative departments.

This position requires a strong understanding of enterprise systems architecture, student information systems, database management, and business process improvement to support the evolving needs of the institution.

Duties include but are not limited to:

Enterprise Systems Support & Development

  • Collaborate on the design, development, testing, and implementation of student enterprise systems.
  • Adapt information systems to changing business requirements and evolving technology.
  • Ensure system integrations with enterprise applications, including Banner Student, third-party student systems, and self-service applications.
  • Maintain and support enterprise systems at optimal performance levels through upgrades, patches, and system configurations.


System Design, Administration & Architecture
  • Define, develop, and manage the architecture of student enterprise systems to align with institutional goals and industry best practices.
  • Provide system administration and technical support, including system configuration, security role management, user access, and troubleshooting.
  • Maintain and support integrations with enterprise applications, such as Banner SaaS, Banner Self-Service, CRM systems, Parchment eTranscript, and other third-party platforms.


End User Support, Training, and Documentation
  • Provide technical and functional support to end users across the college.
  • Respond to inquiries related to the Student Information System (SIS) and troubleshoot system-related issues.
  • Develop and maintain training materials and system documentation to support end users.
  • Train end users on system functionality, troubleshooting and best practices.


Data Management & Reporting
  • Support data gathering, reporting, and analysis for Student Affairs.
  • Design SQL-based reports, dashboards, and data structures to support institutional reporting needs, ensuring data integrity, accessibility, and compliance with policies.
  • Develop SQL scripts and analytical tools for business intelligence and reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with institutional policies, FERPA, and other relevant data privacy regulations.


Business Process Analysis & Continuous Improvement
  • Conduct needs assessments to identify opportunities for business process enhancements, automation, and optimization within student systems.
  • Document and implement best practices for system workflows and data integration activities.
  • Develop and implement best practices for data management, system workflows, and reporting to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and compliance.


Collaboration & Project Management
  • Work cross-functionally with IT teams, project managers, consultants, and reporting analysts to enhance student enterprise systems.
  • Manage assigned projects to meet specific success criteria within defined timelines.
  • Other duties as assigned


Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science or a related field, or any combination of education, training and experience providing understanding of the field.
  • Three years of progressively responsible functional experience with enterprise level systems and web technologies.
  • Three years of experience with project management, business and systems analysis and design including software applications architecture, database and web server configurations.
  • Two years of experience with data collection and report generation tools.
  • Technical proficiency with IT operating systems, formal data flow analysis methodologies, database management, and emerging technologies.
  • Technical proficiency with required IT operating systems.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with ability to explain technical concepts.
  • Eligible applicants must currently be authorized to work in the United States and not require employer visa sponsorship


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Banner ERP/CRM, Banner Web Self-Service and SaaS-based Banner solutions, or similar student information systems, including administration, configuration, maintenance, and reporting.
  • Leading or supporting system implementations, upgrades, or integrations in higher education or a comparable enterprise environment.
  • Knowledge of ETL data integration tools for data processes, including extracting, transforming, and loading data into usable formats for third-party applications.


Hiring Range: $76,679 - $99,671 annually. Initial salary placement for new hires falls between the minimum and midpoint of the range and is based on relevant candidate experience and internal equity. The maximum salary for this position is $122,664.
