Amentum has an opportunity for an Industrial Hygienist to join our team in Springfield, VA. Amentum is seeking a qualified and detail-oriented Industrial Hygienist to join our Environmental Safety and Occupational Health (ESOH) team. This position focuses on implementing and overseeing industrial hygiene programs, with a preference for candidates possessing some environmental and safety experience. The ideal candidate will play a critical role in ensuring environmental safety and occupational health standards are met within our operations at a government facility.
Clearance Level: TS/SCI w/ Counterintelligence Polygraph Required
Key Responsibilities:
- Program Development:Assist in the development, implementation, and management of the facility's industrial hygiene program, including exposure control plans and medical surveillance.
- Risk Assessment:Conduct workplace assessments to identify potential health hazards, including chemical, biological, physical, and ergonomic risks.
- Monitoring and Sampling:Design, implement, and maintain air, surface, and biological sampling strategies to assess workplace conditions and measure exposure levels. Use appropriate monitoring equipment and techniques to ensure compliance with OSHA and other regulatory guidelines.
- Calibration and Equipment Maintenance:Maintain calibration and equipment programs to ensure all monitoring and sampling equipment are functioning correctly and are regularly calibrated according to established protocols.
- Ergonomic Assessments:Conduct ergonomic assessments of workstations and tasks, recommending solutions to minimize ergonomic risks and enhance employee comfort and productivity.
- Indoor Air Quality Assessments:Perform indoor air quality assessments to evaluate and mitigate air quality issues, ensuring that indoor environments comply with regulatory standards and best practices.
- Compliance Management:Ensure facility operations adhere to federal, state, and local regulations related to industrial hygiene, safety standards, and environmental health.
- Data Analysis:Evaluate collected data and prepare comprehensive reports to communicate findings regarding occupational exposure and compliance status to management and relevant stakeholders.
- Training and Education: Support the development and delivery of training programs for staff related to environmental health and safety policies and procedures. Promote awareness and understanding of best practices in environmental management across the organization.
- Collaboration with EHS Team: Work as part of the safety team to promote a culture of health and safety within the organization. Participate in safety trainings and meetings and contribute to a culture of safety within the organization.
- Reporting and Documentation:Prepare and maintain regulatory reports and documentation necessary for government compliance. Assist in the creation and preparation of industrial hygiene reports and submittals required by the program.
- Other Duties:Perform additional tasks and responsibilities as assigned by management to support the EHS team and project goals. Such as:
Safety Responsibilities (minor support): Assist in the development, implementation, and maintenance of comprehensive safety programs, policies, and procedures. Manage the Hazard Communication program, including maintaining Safety Data Sheets (SDS). Conduct and review job hazard analysis (JHA's) to identify hazards and develop safe work procedures. Review and comment on safety plans submitted for various construction efforts. Conduct regular safety inspections to identify and correct hazards. Ensure employees have access to and properly use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE). Participate in and support the facility's safety committee. Participate in emergency response planning and drills.
Environmental Responsibilities (minor support): Ensure compliance with all applicable environmental regulations, permits, and reporting requirements (e.g., Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, RCRA, EPCRA). Implement and maintain programs for the proper storage, handling, and disposal of universal, hazardous, and non-hazardous waste, including recycling initiatives. Develop and maintain spill prevention control and countermeasure (SPCC) plans and coordinate spill response activities. Conduct environmental monitoring activities, such as stormwater sampling, wastewater monitoring, and air emissions testing. Support and implement sustainability initiatives to reduce the facility's environmental footprint. Conduct regular environmental audits to identify and address potential non-compliance issues.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in industrial Hygiene, Environmental Health and Safety, or related field.
- Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), or equivalent certification preferred.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of relevant experience in industrial hygiene, environmental compliance, and safety, preferably in a government or military environment. Master's degree can substitute for 1 year of experience.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and EHS software applications.
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental regulations.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of working effectively in a team environment.
- Active security clearance or ability to obtain security clearance required (TS/SCI - with CI Poly).
