Production Manager III - Military Veterans

Job Purpose

Reporting to the Manufacturing Manager the Autonomous Production Unit Manager will have overall responsibility for all activities within their manufacturing unit.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Manage all APU resources to ensure efficient production activities while maintaining all Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) compliance requirements and meeting product and process quality specifications. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Drive continuous improvement activities within the value stream to ensure process optimization, assurance of product quality and the reduction of scrap and process waste.
Champion all EnerSys Operating System (EOS) practices within standard daily work routines in the APU such as:

  • Managing for Daily Improvement (MDI) 
  • 5S 
  • Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) 
  • Hour by Hour
  • Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE)
  • Root Cause Problem Solving
  • Rapid Improvement Events (RIE’s)
  • Just Do It (JDI’s)
  • Ensure that all non-conforming product has timely and applicable rectification actions  
  • Ensure all processes and procedures are always relevant and adhered to and product quality checks are carried out to the correct methodology & frequency 
  • Carrying out performance reviews for Shift Process Owners and fostering a positive team spirit within the APU and cross functionally.
  • Forming close working links with the Matrix Managers and other APU Managers both upstream and downstream
  • Remain focused on consistently achieving production target requirements through a combination of high product/process knowledge and strong interpersonal skills
  • Mentor & Coach direct reports to develop a ‘can do’ culture within the APU
  • Maintaining all KPI departmental information and endorsing best practice principles in the workplace
  • Managing departmental spend in line with budgetary control requirements
  • Ensuring the Health & Safety of all employees & visitors within the APU
  • Ensuring compliance with all daily / weekly / monthly EHS audits as defined
  • Fully understand the roles and help develop the skills of APU based staff. 
  • Ensuring the highest levels of housekeeping within the department are maintained through initiatives such as 5S and Gemba Walks
  • Carrying out disciplinary warnings as necessary up to and including 3rd stage final written warnings for both attendance and discipline related issues.
  • Assisting with the carrying out and registering of all risk assessments for departmental tasks in conjunction with appropriate skills from within team and engineering
  • Creating safe working procedures for operations within the department following the necessary risk assessments being completed
  • Ensuring Team Leaders are accountable for timely bookings of production and ensuring that production is in line with the manufacturing plans
  • Developing and promoting succession planning and training for employees within the department

Qualifications

Skills & Experience Requirement:

  • Significant previous production management experience
  • Ambitious and career minded individual with minimum of 3 years previous production management experience. 
  • Knowledge of Lean Six Sigma practices
  • Day to day management of Employee Relations issues essential
  • A thorough knowledge of IT systems with sound skills in Excel & Word & PowerPoint packages  
  • Trained to manage safety per OSHA requirements.
  • Previous experience of carrying out risk assessments in the workplace and documenting safe working procedures
  • Ideally from a Manufacturing, Production Control, Engineering or CI background.
  • Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in a related discipline or equivalent work experience.
