A great client is seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineer with a strong foundation in mechanical engineering and medical device design. This role will lead the design teams on the design process from concept to production on the development of mechanical components and systems for medical devices The ideal candidate will apply their technical expertise to develop innovative solutions that meet customer requirements while adhering to time and cost constraints.

The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer will also collaborate with cross-functional teams and consult on mechanical architecture, system requirements, and design progressions to ensure successful product development.

responsibilities:






  • Mechanical Design & Development:







    • Lead the design and development of mechanical components and systems for medical devices, focusing on enclosures, mechanisms, microvalves, and spring selection.







    • Oversee material selection to ensure compatibility with medical device standards and regulations (e.g., IEC 60601, IEC 61010).







    • Provide hands-on expertise in integrating medical components and designing for manufacturing, including knowledge of plastic injection molding processes.






  • Product Lifecycle & Project Management:







    • Manage the design process from concept to production, ensuring design quality, accuracy, and alignment with project timelines and budgets.







    • Collaborate with Project Managers during the quoting process, providing technical insights to help identify and mitigate risks.







    • Provide technical leadership and support in multiple concurrent projects, ensuring on-time delivery of high-quality designs.






  • Customer & Stakeholder Engagement:







    • Represent the design engineering team in customer meetings, discussing technical aspects and offering solutions to meet client requirements.







    • Interface with clients to understand their applications and ensure designs align with their needs.






  • Innovation & Continuous Improvement:







    • Stay current with the latest design trends, technologies, and industry best practices, incorporating them into competitive and cost-effective solutions.







    • Contribute to the development and enhancement of internal design processes, ensuring continual improvement in design quality and efficiency.







    • Lead and support the development of R&D proposals to expand the company's capabilities and expertise in medical device design.






  • Collaboration & Leadership:







    • Lead and mentor junior engineers, fostering a collaborative and high-performance team environment.







    • Work closely with senior technical staff to define product architectures and system requirements.







    • Author technical papers and represent the company at industry conferences and trade shows to raise the company's profile in the medical device community.






  • Compliance & Risk Management:







    • Ensure all designs comply with relevant medical device standards, including safety and regulatory requirements.







    • Conduct risk assessments, including hazard analysis, to ensure product safety and performance.








Required Skills & Experience:





  • Medical Device Design Experience:







    • Proven experience in designing medical devices, with a strong understanding of mechanical systems used in the industry, particularly in areas like autoinjectors, microfluidics, and non-contact pumping technologies.







    • Experience with single-use medical devices, such as administration sets, is a plus.






  • Technical Proficiency:







    • Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks 2023 or 2024 (required).







    • Experience with CREO 8.0+ is a plus.







    • Familiarity with PLM tools
