Director, Pharmacology and Cellular Biology, Boston

Our Discovery Quantitative Biosciences (QB) Cell Pharmacology team in Boston is looking for a collaborative and innovative Director to join us. The ideal candidate will be a seasoned expert in pharmacology and drug discovery, responsible for guiding and inspiring a talented local team of 10+ pharmacologists and group leads. Beyond leadership, this role involves building alliances with local therapeutic areas, championing new technologies, and interfacing with our global pharmacology network. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in evolving our pharmacology organization into an industry trailblazer. In this role as a leader in our organization, you will:
- Lead and manage a team of 10+ in vitro cellular pharmacologists and cell pharmacology group leads, providing guidance, mentorship, accountability, and professional development opportunities.
- Collaborate with Biologics, Chemistry, Therapeutic Area and other functional leadership to understand the pharmacology needs of pipeline programs and develop & execute strategies to address them; primarily programs in Immunology, Oncology, Neuroscience and Cardiometabolic disorders.
- Serve as a scientific leader in Boston QB, partnering and aligning it with our global, network-wide organizational objectives, ensuring that we remain at the forefront of drug discovery.
- Represent the QB/Pharmacology function at therapeutic area governance forums, program teams, due diligence exercises and/or cross-functional teams as needed.
- Foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement within the QB team, driving the development and adoption of new methodologies and technologies.
- Ensure compliance with company established practices and procedures, including laboratory notebooks, computer files, quality and regulatory guidelines, and safety standards.
- Actively participate in conferences, industry events, and scientific forums to establish strategic alliances that augment the impact at our company and on the broader scientific community.
What you will need:
- A Ph.D. in pharmacology or related discipline with 8+ years of industry experience in drug discovery, or a B.S. or M.Sc. in pharmacology or related discipline with equivalent experience.
- Significant industry experience in leading in vitro research in a drug discovery and development setting. Familiarity with oncology, immunology, neuroscience or cardiometabolic disorders.
- Required knowledge of laboratory operations, automation, biochemical and cell-based assays, translational models, high throughput screening, compound management, phenotypic screening, imaging, mechanism of action assessments.
- Proven managerial experience with a track record of training, developing talent, and mentoring team members in the field of pharmacology/cell biology and drug discovery.
- Proficiency in complex problem-solving and the ability to influence strategy across organizational boundaries.
- Strong skills in strategic thinking, effective communication, collaboration, balanced risk-taking, and a relentless pursuit of excellence.
- The ability to influence teams, departments, and the enterprise, with the ability to work and influence across functional boundaries.
- Excellent communication, presentation and collaboration skills.
