Job DescriptionThe salary range for this position is $31.92-$47.05/hourly; $66,648-$98,240/annuallyThe Assistant Director develops, plans, coordinates, and executes a variety of internal communication projects, including email communications, social media, and web content.Develop comprehensive strategic communication plans for internal communications with measurable tactics and strategies to ensure communication needs are met.Primarily responsible for internal communications, including campus-wide emails and newsletters.Plan and coordinate social media accounts, leveraging the videographer and graphic designer positions as necessary to complete work.Write and review website copy and news articles for the website and SCSU Today to raise the reputation of the university and promote news stories to faculty, staff, and students.Assist with the improvement of communication processes and channels, including researching novel communication processes and technologies to stay current with modern processes.Priority: Essential Percent of Time: 40Regularly engage with campus units to stay current and informed on needs and act quickly on immediate needs.Attend meetings with internal partners to remain in tune with current and future efforts.Lead conversations and planning around communications for unit projects to ensure communication needs are met and university communication policies are followed.Align projects and workflow to meet needs of all partners, prioritizing work as necessary.Interpret university communication processes to campus units, ensuring consistency and excellent customer service.Priority: Essential Percent of Time: 20Evaluate success of communications initiatives, including analysis of analytics and content effectiveness.Collect, interpret, and present reporting of analytics, providing expert analysis and suggesting changes as needed.Review and evaluate content effectiveness on an ongoing basis to routinely adjust and improve communications.Develop strategies, goals, and objectives for measuring the effectiveness of communications efforts.Priority: Essential Percent of Time: 20 ?Direct work of communication staff, including assignment of tasks, setting priorities, and conducting training.Direct work of university communications staff to complete assigned projects and in the absence of AVP.Direct work of student workers, including hiring, training, and assigning work.Priority: Essential Percent of Time: 15Perform other duties as assigned to ensure the smooth functioning of the department and maintain the reputation of the organization.The Assistant Director may be asked to fill in for other staff members duties in their absence.The Assistant Director should have working knowledge of all processes and procedures in the University Communications office.Priority: Secondary Percent of Time: 5Minimum QualificationsBachelor?s degree in a communications-related field (e.g., communication, marketing, journalism) and at least 3 years of experience in public relations, marketing, or strategic communications or an equivalent combination of education and experience.Ability to provide expertise and consultation to management and staff regarding communication efforts by identifying target audiences, key messages, and communication strategy so that communication is consistent, effective, and adheres to communications standards and related laws and rules.Demonstrated excellence in a variety of technical communication skills (writing, image editing, design/layout, video production, online curriculum design) that are required to create compelling communications products.Demonstrated effectiveness building relationships with a diverse internal and external clientele.A proven ability to effectively prioritize work in an environment with frequently changing needs and timelines.Knowledge of media relations efforts and ability to identify opportunities to promote agency programs, activities, and accomplishments; developing press releases, media advisories, fact sheets, FAQs, talking points, and other materials; and serving as a media contact to ensure media receives timely information and desired agency messages are conveyed.Preferred QualificationAdvanced-level professional and/or academic experience sufficient to research and understand complex topics such that they can be effectively communicated to a variety of audiences.Significant experience effectively coaching people with a variety of skill levels on effective communication technique and delivery.Experience supervising and training communication staff to ensure communication strategies and practices are understood and followed.Experience in higher education communications or marketing.Work Shift (Hours / Days of work)Monday-Friday, 8:00am-4:30pmAboutThe successful candidate will share St. Cloud State?s commitment to our mission, and in particular, the value we place in diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) as outlined in SCSU?s It?s Time strategic framework.
