Research Assistant- AZ- Physiology - Military Veterans

Summary

The Research Assistant will assist the faculty member with research activities related to the neural control of breathing. The Research Assistant will help in all aspects of conducting a research study including designing and conducting electrophysiology experiments, data analysis and interpretation, as well as manuscript preparation. This individual will regularly interact with other lab members including students and research staff. This position reports to a faculty member in the Physiology department. This individual will be working with rodents. The Research Assistant position is full time, grant funded position and continued employment is based on grant funding. The schedule may vary between 7:00AM-6:00PM Monday through Friday.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work is performed under direct supervision by Principal Investigator or senior member of the lab.
  • Performs a wide variety of standard research procedures with supervision and following established procedures and protocols.
  • Track results, complies data using appropriate formats and graphs and analyzes data with training and supervision.
  • Keeps an accurate lab notebook
  • Adheres to laboratory safety procedures
  • Involved in standard maintenance of the lab
  • Obtain quotes and performs ordering and receiving duties for lab supplies
  • Organizes and maintains supply and stocks adequately lab items
  • Contributes to abstract submissions and poster preparation
  • Mouse colony maintenance

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor’s degree with a background in physiology or related field is required. Must have 0-2 years of related research experience. Experience with electrophysiology experiments and whole cell electrophysiology experience is strongly desired. This individual must be able to work independently in a collaborative team environment.

Computer Skills

Computer proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) is required. Familiarity with GraphPad or other statistical software is desired.

Vision must be correctable to 20/20 in both eyes, depth, color and close vision; hearing correctable to normal.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to work near moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles.
