Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is seeking a Principal Fire Protection Engineer 3/4 for the Sunnyvale, California manufacturing site. This position will be part of the Environmental, Health, Safety and Fire Protection (EHSFP) team and will focus on leading site fire prevention, inspection, and compliance programs. The Principal Fire Protection Engineer will develop and implement fire protection programs and procedures aimed at reducing risk of personnel injury and/or property damage due to fire and explosion. This will require close coordination with several internal organizations including Facilities, Security, manufacturing, risk management and other functional support groups as well as external agencies and government fire protection organizations.
The position can be filled at a Level 3 or 4.
Key roles and responsibilities include:
* Oversight of the Site Fire Protection Program
* Reviewing and approving facility design for life safety, installation and final acceptance of fire suppression, fire alarm systems and manufacturing processes
* Interfacing with fire system vendors and scheduling system inspections at required intervals
* Ensuring system inspections and repair activities are entered in Compliance Engine Database as per CUPA expectations
* Performing egress analyses
* Providing oversight to facilities groups and auditing performance of life safety, fire suppression and alarm system inspection and maintenance programs
* Facilitating insurance, internal audits and other inspections of fire prevention programs and systems
* Facilitating investigations of fire related incidents and providing Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA) assessments
* Developing and updating pre-fire, evacuation and fire related master plans
* Developing and providing subject matter expertise on training for fire and life safety systems
* Hazardous material review for storage and use approval.
* Basic knowledge of explosive regulations, handling and storage
* Reviewing and approving fire and life safety systems impairment requests, hot work program and utility outage requests
* Supporting other environmental, health and safety programs as needed
* Interfacing with local authorities on fire and life safety related issues
* Expectation for 10% travel time to support other western region company locations
Basic Qualifications for Level 3:
* Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of fire prevention program management or related experience; OR a Master's degree with 3 years of related experience; OR 9 years of related experience will be accepted in lieu of degree.
* Experience and knowledge of fire prevention codes such as NFPA, California Building and Fire Codes.
* Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense (DoD) Secret clearance.
* (U.S. Citizenship required).
Basic Qualifications for Level 4:
* Bachelor’s degree and 8 years of fire prevention program management or related experience; OR a Master's degree with 6 years of related experience; OR 12 years of related experience will be accepted in lieu of degree.
* Experience and knowledge of fire prevention codes such as NFPA, California Building and Fire Codes.
* Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense (DoD) Secret clearance.
* (U.S. Citizenship required).
Preferred Qualifications:
* Master’s degree
* NFPA Certified Fire Protection Specialist
* Previous DoD experience, military industrial or heavy manufacturing facilities experience
* Fire investigation experience
Salary Range: *$121,400 - $182,000
Salary Range 2: *$151,000 - $226,700
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
