Summary

Lead and manage Distribution Planning activities associated with the development of plans and conceptual designs for the system protection of the Oncor distribution system. Assist in directing activities for performing technical distribution system protection studies and developing conceptual plans, and recommendations associated with smart automation devices. Assist field personnel in solving operational issues and communicate action plans to appropriate personnel and entities. Implement processes and controls to ensure legal, regulatory, code, safety and standards compliance.

This will be a hybrid role based out of our Fort Worth office.

Key Roles & Responsibilities:

• Supervise the preparation of technical, integrated system designs and coordination/protection studies associated with the installation of smart automation devices

• Review system protection needs for load interconnections of all types on the distribution system and the field implementation of these solutions

• Review conceptual design scheme recommendations. This includes ensuring compliance with radial and networked distribution system protection philosophy associated with the installation of various protective devices such as automatic circuit reclosers, sectionalizers, circuit breakers, fuses, electromechanical and microprocessor relays

• Assist with the development of workflows and reporting functions of the future protective relay settings and asset management/repository software

• Support the development of well-designed training materials for new and experienced protection engineers

• Lead detailed preparation of project recommendations to provide for an optimized system capable of meeting safety, protection, and reliability (protection, voltage and reactive compensation) requirements at a reasonable cost

• Lead preparation of detailed studies and reports in support of protection investigations in conjunction with other Oncor stakeholders

• Serve on company and/or industry committees or technical working groups providing technical and analytical expertise

• Facilitate a high-performance team culture including hiring high-potential job candidates, providing mentoring to professionally develop team members, and demonstrating continuous improvement practices

• Represent Distribution Planning in internal and external stakeholder meetings that deal with distribution system protection related issues

• Maintain a current knowledge of electric utility rules, technical, administrative and regulatory requirements for reliable, safe operation of the system

• Demonstrate proficiency in the use of engineering analysis software such as CYME to model the distribution system, perform short-circuit calculations, load flow analysis, voltage sag analysis, equipment rating verifications, etc.

• Ability to effectively communicate and commit to a course of action that is consistent with all legal, regulatory, code, standard, or other requirements, as well as corporate policies and procedures

• Ability to supervise, lead, motivate, and provide technical guidance to others

Education and Experience

• Bachelor's degree in engineering is required

• Texas Professional Engineering Registration encouraged to apply

• 5 years utility industry experience is encouraged to apply

• Up to 25%
