The Opportunity
The Engineering/Bowers CIS/Tech Campus ITSG Research and Instructional Support team provides systems administration related to data center management, server hardware, server operating systems, server applications installations and configurations, network infrastructure, computing resources in a complex environment comprising of Linux and Windows Servers, and VMware virtualization platform, across multiple buildings and business units.
This role is responsible for administering systems infrastructure, core server applications, and networking and security.
Duties and activities include:
- Participate and develop ITSG and CIT hosted infrastructure environments.
- Maintain and enhance existing units' infrastructure in multiple buildings and units.
- Implement infrastructure solutions in accordance to University Policy 5.10, Information Security.
- Implement procedures for system administration to ensure stability and reliability of Engineering/Bowers CIS/Tech Campus system infrastructure.
What We Need
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience plus three (3) to five (5) years experience with Linux operating systems and system management techniques in a complex technical environment. Formal training beyond a four year program or degree desirable.
- Solid working knowledge of Linux ( Ubuntu ) server administration, including installation, configuration, maintenance, troubleshooting, backup, recovery, and client support.
- Working knowledge of the Microsoft Windows operating system family, including installation, configuration, maintenance, troubleshooting, backup, recovery and client support.
- Proven diagnostic and problem solving skills are essential to the successful performance of this role.
- Excellent understanding of computer hardware, TCP/IP networking, network and computer security issues, and backup/disaster recovery techniques.
- Must be able to work effectively in a dynamic, complex, team-based environment.
- Tact and diplomacy with a flexible and positive approach are required to perform these job functions.
- Effective written and verbal communication
- Ability to juggle multiple priority tasks. Initiative to provide high quality service to the Engineering/Bowers CIS/Tech Campus community is required.
- Strong service orientation.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Extensive knowledge of Linux utilities and services.
- Experience working in a virtualized environment ( VMware ).
- Experience with shell scripting languages and automation.
- Experience with managing network switches .
- Knowledge of Linux clustering and job schedulers (e.g., SLURM).
