Job Summary:
The Proposal Development Office (PDO) is seeking a Proposal Development Officer to provide university-wide support to faculty in their pursuit of external awards, recognitions, honors, and nominations. The Proposal Development Officer works within a team-based environment to support the university's strategic initiatives to grow research by serving as a primary liaison with principal investigators interested in pursuing extramural awards by facilitating development of relationships with agency stakeholders, and by providing highly prestigious award and nomination-related consultation and support for the development of nomination packages. This position will develop strong relationships with investigators and develop a full understanding of the needs and goals to serve as the point person for faculty-related awards, honors, and nominations (honorifics). Specific responsibilities are to monitor and disseminate calls for nominations from governmental, private, and professional sources; assist faculty in developing competitive award applications; and present award-related workshops and training. The position requires some travel to remain current with best practices in research development and agency award priorities. Competitive applicants will have a track record of success in pre-award proposal development spanning diverse sponsors and/or federal agencies as well as the ability to manage multiple projects concurrently and prioritize work in a deadline-driven environment. Pertinent skills include information management and organization, networking, strong writing and interpersonal skills, diplomacy, as well as the ability to work independently and to take initiative. In addition, this position requires the ability to interact effectively with a variety of people on and off campus, including senior university leaders and administrators, and to work with tact and judgment in dealing with agency and UK personnel and information.
