POSITION SUMMARY
The Professional Tutor/Student Advocate is a vital link among the LPP students, the Director, and the Assistant Director. The tutors foster a program environment conducive to the academic, social, and personal development of students.
This is a ten month part-time position.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Job duties specific to this position:
- Functioning as student advocates in all interactions with parents, families, community agencies, and SCSD personnel.
- Motivating students collectively and individually to achieve academic success through encouraging, advising, and planning strategies, while supporting LPP goals and reflecting them in interaction with students.
- Providing academic assistance to LPP students in all subject areas including tutoring, homework assistance, exam review, and SAT/ACT exam preparation.
- Completing and reviewing student PLP's and academic data (progress towards graduation sheets, regents scores, report cards, etc.) to drive individual instruction and case management.
- Providing services in all program elements (listed on the log sheets) as directed by the NYS Education Department.
- Monitoring student attendance and reaching out to students who are absent from assigned LPP classes or not receiving services. This intervention is pivotal to program/student success.
- Serve as mentors to the LPP students.

- Must complete all required federal, state, institution and department trainings.
- Engages in a planned program of professional development. Continually maintains skills and knowledge relative to the position and technology industry including best practice, evolving operational requirements, and industry trends.
- Performs a variety of related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's Degree or enrolled student at Le Moyne College
- NYS Teaching Certification preferred
- An interest in, and commitment to, academic achievement in high school students
- An understanding of and comfort with culturally diverse populations
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Flexibility and adaptability are essential.

Pay Range: $18.00 per hour
