Position Description
Under the general supervision of the Division Dean, the Deaf Studies instructor's responsibilities include teaching Deaf Preparation Program (DPP), Deaf-Centered Interpreting Preparation Program (DCIPP), and other Deaf Studies courses, overseeing the DPP and DCIPP curriculum, and mentoring part-time instructors. The position may include teaching DPP, DCIPP, and other Deaf Studies courses, all current DPP, DCIPP, and Deaf Studies course offerings, some of which may be in an online format. Other courses may be developed in the future. The Deaf Studies (DPP/DCIPP) instructor will be responsible for teaching lower division DPP, DCIPP, and other Deaf Studies courses. Additional major responsibilities will include coordinating the DPP, serving on the accreditation committee, and coordinating students' fieldwork experiences. The instructor may be expected to work in a classroom incorporating computer activities, as well as one with a traditional instructional format. Participation as a full-time faculty member in department, division and campus-wide activities is required. The instructor may be required to have part of their teaching assignment in the evening and/or weekends and teach courses at the Fremont and/or Newark campuses, online via the eCampus and/or an off-campus location.

Minimum Qualifications
Master's degree in Deaf Education, ASL/English Interpreting, English, Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL);
OR
the equivalent;
AND
Commitment to community college goals/objectives of being an equity-based and anti-racist institution, and providing quality programs and services for culturally, socio-economically, ethnically, and academically diverse students and students with disabilities; personal qualities to work effectively and with sensitivity in a multicultural environment; awareness of and commitment to the needs of non-traditional and/or re-entry students with diverse abilities and interests;
AND
Must have evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practices.

Contract Period

Continuance in this position is dependent on satisfactory performance and evaluations.
Salary Placement
The current salary schedule range for an entering tenure-track instructional faculty member is $79,012.00 - $120,947.00. Initial salary placement is determined per Article 16.3 of the faculty contract (Download PDF reader) . Faculty members advance one step each year and have the potential to reach the current maximum step of $161,771.00, depending on the educational level attained.
