RESEARCH SCIENTIST



University of Alabama at Birmingham

This position will work in a lab environment and have the opportunity to explore the intersection of mucosal immune responses, host-pathogen interactions, and the development of inflammatory bowel disease complications. Along with the study of the cellular and molecular drivers of dysplasia within chronically inflamed tissues, leveraging cutting-edge immunological, microbiological, and molecular biology techniques.

Key Roles & Responsibilities

  • As the subject matter expert in the lab, applies subject matter principles, theories, and concepts to job assignments.
  • Applies/exhibits technical and operational proficiency solving problems of moderate complexity, along with applying specialized knowledge to drive research projects.
  • Contributes to completion of projects and programs in area of expertise.
  • May interface with internal and/or external stakeholders and provides guidance to research support roles.
  • Conducts advanced studies in a specific field, applying specialized knowledge to drive research projects
  • Responsible for collaboration with peers and adherence to established protocols, with moderate autonomy and responsibility for project deliverables.
  • Keeps abreast of developments in the field by reading current literature, talking with colleagues and participating in professional conferences.
  • Conducting research in a particular field of knowledge, and assisting with writing grant proposals to procure external research funding.
  • This position will have the opportunity to collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including postdocs, students, technicians, computational biologists, and clinicians.
  • Perform other duties as assigned



Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Work Characteristics



Preferred experience in immunology; familiarity with techniques such as flow cytometry, tissue imaging, single-cell RNA-seq, or other advanced molecular and cellular methods is highly desirable.



Salary Range: $70,425 - $114,440

Qualifications

Education


  • Doctorate degree in a related field and one (1) year of related experience
  • OR Master s degree in a related field and three (3) years of related experience
  • OR Bachelor s degree in a related field and five (5) years of related experience required.

Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
