Senior Accountant - Military Veterans

Summary of Primary Functions :

The Accounting Senior is a key financial professional responsible for ensuring compliance with accounting standards, assisting with the implementation of accounting policies, and providing technical accounting support to the staff. This role involves working with other departments, auditors and accounting/finance team members to maintain accurate financial reporting and compliance with other reporting requirements.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities : To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each assigned essential duty satisfactorily . (Below are examples, not all duties will be assigned to you, but other duties may be assigned).

  • Oversee daily transactions, including management of the general ledger, journal entries, and account reconciliations
  • Preparation/review of accounting schedules supporting the financial statements in compliance with applicable accounting standards
  • Assists in the preparation, integrity, and interpretation of the financial statements
  • Maintain general ledger data for assigned areas of responsibility according to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and company policies
  • Acquire a deep understanding of the business processes related to assigned general ledger accounts, including transaction flow
  • Work closely with, train and develop accounting staff
  • Participate in preparation and review of audit materials and work papers as required for internal and external audits
  • Review monthly close entries prepared by staff accountants
  • Review balance sheet account reconciliations as well as prepare general ledge account analyses by reviewing transactions with the general ledger to ensure accuracy and completeness of transactions
  • Prepare and maintain Sales and Use Tax filings for assigned states, including filing payments, analyzing data, reviewing and approving sales tax exemption certificates and updating customer tax status
  • Identify areas of improvement, process improvements, and efficiency improvements
  • Assist in the development and implementation of accounting policies
  • Work with various departments to communicate and educate teams on accounting policies and procedures
  • Provide guidance on transactions and other business initiatives to ensure compliance with accounting standards
  • Record and reconcile the John Deere vendor statements monthly, including researching and clearing open items

Qualifications: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
  • CPA strongly preferred
  • Bachelors degree in Finance/Accounting
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP
  • Extensive experience (typically 5+ years) in accounting roles, with demonstrated progression
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Highly organized and motivated self-started
  • Advanced Excel skills required
  • Dealership accounting experience preferred
  • Valid Drivers License

Work Environment:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will need the following: The ability to sit for extended periods of time, ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and the ability to focus on a computer screen for extended periods of time. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
