Metrologist - Military Veterans

Description:This Metrologist role is designed to build on your metrology capabilities while providing continued development to enhance your skills for future opportunities and advancement within Lockheed Martin.

In this role, you will help provide metrological support to a variety of production and maintenance activities at Naval Base Kitsap in Silverdale Washington. You will be part of a team working in a Navy Calibration Laboratory in support of the Fleet Ballistic Missile (FBM) program, responsible for ongoing calibration of electronic and physical/dimensional test and measuring equipment.

Develops and evaluates calibration systems that measure characteristics of objects, substances, or phenomena, such as length, mass, time, temperature, electric current, luminous intensity, and derived units of physical or chemical measure.

Identifies magnitude of error sources contributing to uncertainty of results to determine reliability of measurement process in quantitative terms.

Develops calibration methods and techniques based on principles of measurement science, technical analysis of measurement problems and accuracy and precision requirements.

Designs, establishes, analyzes, and revises systems for calibration and repair of electrical and physical/dimensional test and measurement equipment for optimization of accuracy and precision.

Works with technicians, government representatives, Naval calibration entities, commercial vendors, and other Lockheed Martin organizations to resolve technical, procedural, logistical, and material problems with the calibration and repair of Test, Measurement, and Diagnostic Equipment (TMDE) and associated processes.

Develops/revises calibration procedures (manual and/or automated) to support new and changing requirements.
Devises, creates, analyzes, and revises parameter statistical measurement uncertainty analyses for maintenance of laboratory accreditation.

With the metrology team, helps foster a learning environment that encourages initiative, quality, efficiency, teamwork, and innovation.

This position offers shift flexibility, and company provided training with some travel required.

Basic Qualifications:
6 years professional experience in related technical field or equivalent metrology experience/combined education with 1 year minimum documented calibration laboratory experience.

Ability to interpret calibration specifications and apply adequate technical standard substitutions to support calibration activities.

Proficient using computers and major components of MS Office suite.

Good verbal & written communication skills and effective interpersonal skills to engage with a team and/or lead a team.

Willingness to occasionally support off schedule work (weekends) as needed to support business operations.

Interim Security Clearance and US Citizenship required to start with the ability to obtain and maintain a DOD Secret Security Clearance.

Cannot have dual citizenship.
Desired Skills:
BS Degree in a technical field such as Engineering, Mathematics, or Physics (strong math skills).

Ability to perform and explain calibration uncertainty analysis and budget calculations.

Ability to maintain NVLAP Accredited parameters, and update corresponding uncertainty calculations.

Ability to manage backlog in assigned area of responsibility.

Strong experience in a Metrology Laboratory with a diversity of disciplines and capabilities.

Experience with Dimensional parameters requiring precision at the microinch resolution such as Gage Blocks, Cylindrical Rings, and Master Thread Gages.

Experience with the calibration and repair of Dimensional instruments such as micrometers, indicators, and calipers.

Experience within an ISO/IEC 17025 accredited or ISO/IEC 17025 compliant laboratory.

Experience leading In-Place Submarine calibrations.
Proven ability to lead metrology focused teams, to include long or short term sit-ins.

Physical manufacturing and/or testing experience.
System troubleshooting experience.

Ability to develop metrology measurement techniques and procedures.

Familiarity with METCAL, PMEL, or TMDE metrology programs.

DoD METCAL, PMEL, or TMDE training.

Experience with teaching, mentoring, or coaching.

Active or recent security clearance.
Security Clearance Statement: This position requires a government security clearance, you must be a US Citizen for consideration.

Ability to Work Remotely: Onsite Full-time: The work associated with this position will be performed onsite at a designated Lockheed Martin facility.
Work Schedules: Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.
Schedule for this Position: Standard Monday to Friday 40 hour work week
Pay Rate: The annual base salary range for this position in California and New York (excluding most major metropolitan areas), Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, Washington or Washington DC is $67,400 - $129,300. For states not referenced above, the salary range for this position will reflect the candidate’s final work location. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. Lockheed Martin considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/ training, key skills as well as market and business considerations when extending an offer. Benefits offered: Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, Short-Term Disability, Long-Term Disability, 401(k) match, Flexible Spending Accounts, EAP, Education Assistance, Parental Leave, Paid time off, and Holidays. (Washington state applicants only) Non-represented full-time employees: accrue at least 10 hours per month of Paid Time Off (PTO) to be used for incidental absences and other reasons; receive at least 90 hours for holidays. Represented full time employees accrue 6.67 hours of Vacation per month; accrue up to 52 hours of sick leave annually; receive at least 96 hours for holidays. PTO, Vacation, sick leave, and holiday hours are prorated based on start date during the calendar year. This position is incentive plan eligible.
