Faculty Appointment: Teaching Associate (ARNP (Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner) or PA-C (Certified Physician Assistant)) position in the Division of Cardiology is a full-time, one-year, 12-month appointment, renewable annually (JCC: 0169).
Position Overview: We are seeking a highly reliable and flexible Advanced Practice Provider (APP) with proven excellence working in an interdisciplinary collaborative team environment for our ML and NW Outpatient Cardiovascular Genetics Teams. Anticipated start date is August 1, 2025.
Position Details: Full-time (100% FTE), Outpatient ARNP or PA-C, 4-day/week coverage, 10-hour shifts. UW Montlake and Northwest Clinic sites. One-year, 12-month appointment, renewable annually. Faculty are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off.
University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research and service.
The base salary range for this position will be $10,833 - $15,175 per month ($129,996 - $182,100 per year), commensurate with years of experience, discipline, and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. Other compensation associated with this position may or may not include Temporary Pay Supplements or Administrative Supplement.

Position Description
Cardiovascular genetics is a rapidly growing subspeciality within the UW Medicine Heart Institute that focuses on inherited and family-based forms of heart disease. The UW Medicine Cardiovascular Genetics Clinic provides comprehensive evaluations and management and serves as a referral center for patients throughout the Pacific Northwest. Advanced Practice Providers (APPs - ARNPs and PAs) are integral and essential to the comprehensive care of this complex patient population. UW has recently attained designation as an HCMA?s (Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy Association) Center of Excellence.
The APP will collaborate with cardiologists who specialize in the genetic basis of multiple cardiac conditions, including hypertrophic and other genetic cardiomyopathies, cardiac complications of neuromuscular conditions, and aortic diseases such as Marfan syndrome. The APP will independently see patients in the outpatient clinical setting in consultation with physician partners at both UWMC-Montlake and UWMC-Northwest. The APP will integrate clinical findings, obtained from physical examination, imaging, and functional assessment, with genetic information to improve diagnosis, prognostication, and risk stratification, including cascade family screening.
Cardiology APPs throughout UW Medicine support a model of care delivery that prioritizes rapid access and patient care needs.
The Cardiology APP will have the following responsibilities:
1. Clinical Knowledge and Patient Care
The APP will:
a. Demonstrate knowledge of etiologies, risk factors, pathophysiology, presentation and epidemiology of common cardiovascular conditions with a strong knowledge of or strong interest in cardiogenetics.
b. Perform histories and physical assessment of patients that are timely, accurate, complete, concise, relevant and appropriate to the clinical problem.
c. Order appropriate diagnostic studies and correctly interpret the results.
d. Utilize critical thinking to synthesize and analyze collected data.
e. Develop, implement, evaluate and alter the plan of care as needed.
f. Manage general cardiovascular conditions based on knowledge of the indications, contraindications, side effects, interactions and adverse reactions of pharmacologic agents and other relevant treatment modalities.
g. Teach and counsel patients and their families.
h. Maintain accurate, complete, concise and timely documentation in the EMR.
i. Provider care that is patient and family centered, compassionate, appropriate and effective for the promotion of cardiovascular health, prevention illness and treatment of disease.
The APP will provide the above care services in a manner that optimizes access to care and use of standard clinic templates.
2. Communication and Interdisciplinary Collaboration
The APP will:
a. Incorporate the patient and family in care planning and treatment.
b. Serve as an advocate for patients and families in navigating the health system.
c. Communicate pertinent clinical information in a timely manner.
d. Facilitate interprofessional collaboration.
e. Promote and enhance communication with patients, staff, family members, and the interprofessional team.
f. Provide accurate and timely verbal hand-offs and facilitate smooth transitions of care.
g. Serve as a point person for communications among service team members.
h. Communicate professionally and respectfully with all members of the health care team through verbal, email, or text.
i. Provide accurate and timely order entry.
j. Provide timely and accurate documentation.
k. Practice and promote the practice of communication using TeamSTEPPS elements (including daily huddling with MAs and RNs).
3. Professional
The APP will:
a. Demonstrate excellent Teamspersonship in support of colleagues and team members by remaining flexible, supportive, and respectful at all times.
b. Participate in and support the Division?s education, research and quality initiatives.
c. Provide education and mentorship to fellow team members, staff, fellows, and nurses.
d. Attend weekly Cardiology Grand Rounds and quarterly faculty meetings.
e. Be well versed in UWMC CPOE/EPIC
f. Follow UWMC Professional Behavior Policy and Procedures
Minimum Qualifications:
- Current and unencumbered licensure as an ARNP or PA-C in Washington State
- Proven excellence working in an interdisciplinary collaborative team environment
- Effective interpersonal skills and leadership skills
- Clinical expertise in the care of patients with both chronic and acute cardiovascular illnesses.
- Excellent time management skills
Desirable Qualifications
1. Training and experience in cardiology preferred
2. Basic understanding of genetics is desirable but not required.
3. ACLS Certification
