The Associate Director for Residential Education serves as a member of the Residential Education (RE) leadership team and reports to the Director of Residential Education. The Associate Director shares in the comprehensive development and management of RE and supports the mission of Student Success and The New School by serving a population of 1,600 residential students. The Associate Director manages aspects of on-campus engagement and learning experience, including the residential curriculum, leadership opportunities, and supervision. Finally, this position supervises all Resident Directors. This is a full-time, 12-month, live-on position and serves on-call, and supports evening and weekend activities. RESPONSIBILITIES Serves as a member of the Residential Education leadership team and assists in the development, implementation, support, and assessment of the departmental mission Supervision: Supervise and provide leadership for full-time Resident Directors, communicate expectations and monitor work processes. Provide ongoing direction & feedback about performance through weekly 1:1 meetings and ongoing performance evaluations. Provide intentional professional development opportunities that contribute to increasing competency of job responsibilities. Student Engagement and Learning: Develop, implement, manage, and assess student engagement and community development initiatives utilizing a residential curricular approach grounded in student development theory Develop, implement and review the Faculty-In Residence program. Develops the creation and implementation of a residence hall association Oversees the hall council system, focusing on community engagement and advocacy On-call: Participate in 24-hour on-call rotation with live-in professional staff colleagues; residence hall are open 365 days a year and therefore being on-call during holidays should be expected; respond to student and/or facilities issues or crises as a third-tier responder and in person as needed 24-hours a day; high level of in-person response to mental health concerns, other student support situations should be expected. Consistent communication with senior leadership during crises or emergencies; maintain accurate incident reports using PAVE Software. Work with the Residential Education and Student Support & Advocacy team to respond to critical incidents on campus; work with other departments to provide an appropriate response to crises. Maintain contact with parents and other constituencies as appropriate. Residential Experience: Serves as the departments liaison with campus partners, facilities and Campus Safety. Assists in departmental operations, including opening, closing, room changes, safety inspections, damage billing, etc. Serves on departmental and university committees and leads initiatives as needed. Assists in the development and management of the Residential Education budget, while maintaining compliance with university procurement policies and procedures. Serves as a liaison for The New School community and acts as a referral resource for faculty, staff, student, parents, and families. Engages in occasional evening and weekend work. Other duties as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Master's degree in higher education leadership or a similar concentration. Five (5) to eight (8) years of progressive experience in Residential Education. Experience implementing and managing a Residential Curriculum. Demonstrated crisis management skills, including problem-solving and critical thinking. Applied understanding of student development theory, including the impact of residential life on academic success. Demonstrated experience supervising, developing, mentoring, and motivating a diverse staff team, while directly supervising professional staff. Experience building collaborative partnerships with faculty, administrators, students, parents, and community partners. Experience with fiscal management, including the managing and oversight of a multilayered budget. Demonstrated excellence in interpersonal skills, including sensitivity to cultural differences and working in diverse populations. Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills. Ability to manage multiple collaborative projects and systems in a fast-paced environment. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Ability to navigate StarRez, Banner, Starfish, & Campus Labs. Familiarity with Google suite. Experience developing and implementing a new residential curriculum. Experience with developing academic initiatives, including, academic support and faculty engagement.
