Responsibilities
As a Traveling Underground Fiber Optic Placing Foreman, you will lead our fiber optic installation projects across multiple locations. The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge and hands-on experience in blowing fiber optic cables using the Condux Gulfstream 400 system. Additionally, the candidate should be proficient in operating various underground digging machinery such as Operate backhoes, dozers, cable plows, air compressors, trenchers, hydraulic reel trailers & other types of machinery. This position requires strong leadership skills, the ability to work under challenging conditions, and a commitment to safety and quality.
In addition, you will:
- Oversee the installation of underground fiber optic networks, ensuring that projects are completed on time, within budget, and to company standards.
- Operate and maintain the Condux Gulfstream 400 and other blowing equipment to efficiently install fiber optic cables in various environments.
- Proficiently operate underground digging equipment, including backhoes, dozer, cable plow, air compressors, trenchers, hydraulic reel trailers & other types of machinery.
- Supervise a crew of fiber optic technicians, providing training, guidance, and support to ensure a high level of craftsmanship and safety compliance.
- Conduct regular inspections of fiber installations to ensure adherence to industry standards and project specifications.
- Implement and enforce safety protocols and procedures to create a safe work environment for all team members.
- Quickly diagnose and troubleshoot any issues that arise during the installation process and develop effective solutions.
- Maintain accurate records of project progress, materials used, and any incidents or challenges encountered during installation.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients during installations, providing updates and addressing any concerns or requests.
- Use your knowledge and skills in construction to build, repair and maintain projects
- Work in outdoor utility construction sites
- Troubleshoot problems as they arise in the field
- Train your crew on various kinds of tools and equipment
- Operate backhoes, dozer, cable plow, air compressors, trenchers, hydraulic reel trailers & other types of machinery.
- Manage all aspects of job-site construction

- You know the telecom construction industry
- Coax Splicing, Fiber Splicing, Directional Drilling, Aerial and Underground Construction, etc.
- You have a track record of completing work with a high level of quality
- You have a knack for figuring out hard problems and enjoy a hands-on approach to your work
- High school diploma or equivalent; relevant technical certifications preferred.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in fiber optic installation, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
- Expertise in using the Condux Gulfstream 400 for blowing fiber optic cables.
- Proficient in operating underground digging machinery, including backhoes, bobcats, and trenchers.
- Strong understanding of underground utility installation standards and practices.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work in various weather conditions and physical environments.
- Valid driver's license and willingness to travel extensively.
- OSHA 30 certification is a plus.
- Knowledge of railroad rules and regulations are a plus.
MOS Codes 12H, 3E251, 3E271, 4305 relate well to this position.
