Summary:

 

Coordinates activities of production crews to produce cost effective clinker and cement according to quality control specifications and plant production goals.  On shifts where this position is the only salaried supervisor at the plant, this position is responsible for all employees working at the plant during that shift. This includes production, labor, lab, barge, electrical, maintenance and shipping.  Shift Supervisor ensures that shipments of cement and clinker are processed in a timely and efficient manner.

 

What you’ll be contributing: 

 

 

  • Prioritizes, assigns and communicates job duties to employees working on the shift.

  • Directs production team and manages plant operations to assure production goals are achieved.  Strives for continuous improvement of production operations.

  • Monitors and supervises the performance of hourly employees working directly in the production process.  Evaluates job performance and communicates same to employees.

  • Assists hiring, performs technical training, discipline and other related duties as needed for the shift.

  • Coordinates with control room personnel to respond as quickly as possible to problems occurring in the production process.

  • Monitors quality control and coordinates with lab and production personnel to ensure that adjustments are made as needed to enhance quality to meet required specifications.

  • Collaborates with Shift Supervisors from prior and following shifts/Production Superintendent/Production Manager/Chief Chemist/Process Engineer/Plant Manager regarding the status of production operations, problems and adjustments being made to meet production goals.

  • Ensures grinding mills and cement transfer facility are properly positioned and operating.  Changes cement silos as needed.

  • Conducts safety meetings on a regular basis to make sure employees understand and practice proper safety procedures. Insures that the Plant Safety Plan is completed as outlined.

  • Inspects work areas for safety hazards and ensures compliance with safety standards and regulations.

  • Maintains records of employee safety training, overtime, absences, vacations, etc. and prepares daily time sheets for employees under direct supervision of this position.  Ensures that proper pay scale codes and charge number are recorded for employees on the shift.

  • Monitors inventory of raw materials, fuels, clinker, cement and documents accordingly.

  • Inspects equipment and process systems to troubleshoot mechanical, electrical and process problems. Creates Work Requests and completes assigned Work Orders through the MEP process as directed.

  • Investigates and reports accidents and incidents as required by internal contacts and external agencies. Investigates and writes all accident/incident reports for their shift. Schedules with the Safety Manager all doctor’s case conference calls.

  • Investigates and recommends capital investments as needed.

  • Coordinates efforts with other departments such as maintenance, shipping and barge.

  • Prepares daily reports and maintains required records regarding production operations as requested.

  • Inspects equipment and process system breakdowns, determines repairs needed and writes work requests.  Coordinates and supervises equipment repairs and preventive maintenance performed by maintenance personnel.

  • Orders supplies and equipment as needed.

  • Supervises contractors working on projects during shift.

  • Monitors and supervises all plant operations during night and weekend shifts.  This includes barge, production, maintenance, electrical and shipping.

  • Receives, inspects and unloads shipments of fuel and raw materials.

  • Assures proper and timely loading and shipping of cement (when applicable).

  • Develops a working understanding of all contracts affecting plant operations (where applicable).

  • Performs other job related duties as needed.

 

To succeed in this position, you will need:

 

  • H.S. Diploma / GED Required

  • Associates Degree or two years off college preferred with an emphasis in science and math a plus

  • Ability to read, write and understand warning labels, instructions, signs, etc.

  • Extensive knowledge of kiln and mill operations, equipment and machinery functions, process control of cement manufacturing process. 

  •  Knowledgeable of shipping, maintenance, barge and engineering department.

  • Ability to read, write and perform basic math functions.

  • Excellent supervisory, communication, organizational, problem solving and decision making skills. 

  • Ability to climb stairs and ladders, walk over rough and slippery surfaces, stand for long periods of time, bend and kneel. 

  • Exposed to extreme temperatures and weather conditions.

 

ISO 14001 TRAINING PLAN

The Production Shift Supervisor must become familiar with and participate in initial and annual training for ISO 14001 requirements.

 

 

Compensation:

 

  • The base salary range starts at $95,000.00 - $110,000.00

  • Eligible for a yearly bonus

  • Potential for Geographic Differential
