Experience in teaching, training, curriculum development, visual literacy or related experience
Experience with project management that includes budget development
Experience with scheduling tours, educational events, facilities, etc.
Knowledge and/or education in art history or museum studies

If so, University Museums at Iowa State University is currently seeking applicants for an Education and Security Specialist! This position will be classified as a Program Specialist I.

University Museums at Iowa State University is a distinctive organization that encompasses two art museums, a National Historic Landmark site and historic house museum, a sculpture garden, and one of the largest campus public art collections in the nation. University Museums brings world-class exhibitions with educational programming to Iowa State University, actively acquires works of art to add to the more than 30,000 permanent collection objects, conserves and preserves collections, conducts and publishes curatorial scholarship, and fosters inspired student engagement. The University Museums is accredited by the American Alliance of Museums.

What You'll Do:

  • Provide security and support in maintaining the Brunnier Art Museum (BAM) facility.
  • Identify and report on any potential issues and/or risks in the museum space.
  • Provide a high level of visitor service while in the Museum. Act as primary contact for and provide assistance to visitors, speakers, and artists in BAM.
  • Coordinate with curator(s) to develop and present high quality educational programs, special events, and tours in the BAM.
  • Schedule and confirm tour activities at all University Museums locations, designating the staff or docent tour guide who will finalize tour locations and learning outcomes.
  • Assist with all exhibition changes and installations; i.e. gallery prep and patching, painting walls and pedestals, moving walls, lighting, etc.
  • Coordinate trainings and workshops for University Museums docents, volunteers and area teachers.

Level Guidelines
Individual contributor position with developing professional and/or technical skills working under immediate to general supervision
Grasps professional-level knowledge and concepts of museum field while working in a progressive learning mode
Works on problems and issues of somewhat limited scope
Follows standard practices and procedures in analyzing situations or data for which answers are available or can be obtained
Responds to inquiries and issues, escalating to manager or higher level workers as appropriate
May lead projects of limited scope and complexity
May provide guidance to students
