Job Summary and Qualifications

Role Summary: Evaluates patients, develops care plan to treat patients, uses procedures and techniques to change condition/function consistent with the rehabilitation diagnosis and prognosis, supervises and coordinates therapeutic care and communicates evaluation results to patients, families and appropriate staff. Teaches and mentors other staff and participates in the management of resources for patient care and organizational improvement. May provide services off-site within the scope of the job description as needed by the department.


What you will do in this role:


  • You will conduct a subjective assessment of assigned patient’s speech language abilities during spontaneous conversation. You will administer objective tests to assess patient’s communication assets and liabilities.

  • You will structure and implement individualized patient program to improve communication abilities.

  • You will evaluate patient regularly during treatment and adjust program as needed to maximize patient progress.

  • You will document progress in patient’s chart. You will complete notes, charges, discharge notes and patient communication.

  • You will consult with Program Director and Rehab Physician/Medical Director regarding pre-screen assessments and physician consultations to determine appropriate placement of potential patients.

What qualifications you will need:
  • Required Education: Master's Degree in Speech Language Pathology, or Communication Disorders, or Communication Sciences and Disorders
  • Preferred Education: None 
  • Required License/Certification: Current North Carolina License to practice Speech Therapy, ASHA certification, and BLS Healthcare Provider 
  • Preferred License: Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP) or CFY 
  • Required Experience: None required – new graduate eligible 
  • Preferred Experience: Clinical affiliations having a wide variety of acute care procedures, especially videofluorgraphic swallow evaluations and non-instrumental swallow evaluations. Experience with cognitive and language disorders, motor-speech disorders, dysphagia treatment, especially with neurology, cardiopulmonary, head/neck cancer, traumatic brain injury, and tracheostomy and ventilation management.
